It's a sickness for sure. So many times I thought to myself why can't I go back to 2-3 watches and be done. Sometimes I miss those days of 2-3 watches that I had emotional attachment to and every scratch brought back a memory. Now it's just like changing socks :)

This is how I've kinda always looked at things. Whenever I get over three watches I just think of all that money sitting in the watch box. That's why I usually flip before I get too attached to something.

I did it with this GMT.

I still own the CWC and a UX that’s at service, but I told her I was basically done.

She’s never given two thoughts about what I have and what I do with watches, but she’s been involved with the discussion about this GMT from the minute it came out of his mouth and is pretty happy for me that it’s here.

That being said, realistically, I would buy and wear an Explorer gladly in rotation with this. The one I test drove was perfect, just not the right time. I don’t see myself doing that with any other sub or gmt.

I am down three watches, the Monta broke me from chasing for a while. I did want a Bahama Halios but I can do with out.

I think I was happier at the beginning of this madness.

I bought an Aquaracer for daily wear (I was a noob) and loved it, got an SKX on rubber for weekend and boat/sea stuff, bought a Carrera Chrono (and had it as best) then restored my Granddads Rolex and I was fixed. Four watches that all had their place. Now I have 15 and don’t feel the connection that I did with the four.

It’s strange, I always thought watches should mean something, like “Dads watch”. I have my Dads watch but doubt anyone in my family will associate me with one watch.

^^^I might agree with that. Blissfully wore my SKX173 for 16 years and never even thought of another watch. Didn't even know/care about if it ran plus or minus, but it was close enough. Then one day watch forums invaded my life and now I have 10. At least I'm not breaking the bank with my Seikos though.

It's true, the forums feed the addiction. It would be helpful if everyone here were assholes, because then I wouldn't want to check in all the time (as with pretty much every other forum), see all the great watches, and shoot the bull. I am kinda thankful for that, though. :gayumbrella:

Explorer I thoughts

Post by dukerules » Sun Feb 11, 2018 4:09 pm

I was very happy with just my 16600. Then I started with the forums. I actually don't regret any of it. I've had a lot of fun, and met some great people on this journey. My wife would disagree with me, though.

I imagine this part applies to many of us. As much as I’d love to be content with one or two watches, I don’t regret any of this.

Since I got into this I’ve always had 3-5 watches (currently have 3). But being on the forums always makes me think I need something new.

The Exp1 is definitely a watch I’d like to try at some point. Would make a great pair w my GMT.

Mine came in “worn” condition and it’s been nice to just wear it wherever, just as intended.

That looks nice on a NATO. Are the lugs on the Explorer drilled?

No. No Rolex has drilled lugs since early 2000’s.

No shit!
I’ve just sold two of the watches that I would never thought I’d moved to hunt one down.
Nice, it's such a great watch, this would be your first? I'd have probably bought one this past week, but it's tax time, and I have nothing I'm willing to sell to offset it, so it'll have to wait a while.

Yes it will be the first time I own one.
Have to found it yet and may sell other stuff before I get it, but I know I’ll love it
I'm not very patient, I have a 214270 MkII on the way... I just won't pay my tax.

Enjoy the hunt for yours!
