Laptop with Windows 7; asking for your thoughts, advise, recommendations
I'd like to ask for you're help with this new purchase. This laptop will be a back up to my present 5 year old ASUS with Windows 7 home premium (which seems to be giving me a few problems). I'm a basic kind of user, for example; I'll install Microsoft Works, my USB Air Card, and couple of virus and malware programs.
I'll install the above programs, so it'll be ready to roll when needed.
Finding new laptops with Windows 7 is limited. I did a google search, and it basically took me to Amazon. I found a couple new ones, so I'd thought I ask you'all for your thoughts before I hit the order button.
Two new (would like to purchase new);
https://www.amazon.com/HP-450-G3-Busine ... +windows+7
This one is listed as refurbished, but they have new available;
https://www.amazon.com/Refurbished-Lati ... +windows+7
Not sure about a factory refurbished;
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Anti-Glare- ... +windows+7
I'm not sure where else to look. I was planning on contacting, ASUS, Toshiba, as well as a few others (any recommendations) to inquire about available new laptops with Windows 7.
Thanks in advance for your help!

My buddy owns a computer/tech place. He can probably get you a laptop with Windows 7.
Would you like me to check or just give you his info?

Why do you specifically want windows 7? Beyond the limiting your choice of laptops it’s not a fantastic system IMHO.

Man, thanks! Yes I'll be interested. I'm like to stay close to the $500.00 plus range.

After checking out the windows 10 tutorials on youtube. I'd like to stay with something I'm accustomed to, basic straight forward. ...

The first one looks great. Full HD display + an SSD and a good CPU are the most important criteria.
The second one is a higher end laptop, perhaps a little older and its SSD is on the small side but if the warranty is OK then it may be a good choice as well.
Don't get a laptop without an SSD.

Windows 10 is stable and really easy to use IMO. WAY better than the shitshow that Windows 8 was.....That was a fun time to be working at MSFT btw...lol...was like putting lipstick on a pig.

As someone who yearned for the return of XP I hear you. Personally I didn’t like the folder system on 7, hated 8 and after resisting the forced upgrade from 7 to 10 for as long as possible eventually caved and installed it on a back up computer to feel it out.AZpops wrote:After checking out the windows 10 tutorials on youtube. I’m sold. Once your not using tablet mode I find it feels very much like the old windows.
Is Windows still supporting 7 with updates etc?

Re: Laptop with Windows 7; asking for your thoughts, advise, recommendations
Yes, but I've been only installing the critical updates. However, something went on with my computer. Possible comparability issues, not sure, but everything went wonky, so after uninstalling both bitdefender, and malwarebytes. I did a system restore, and so far so good. It scared me though, figure I'd should pick up a back up. My morning report is the most important, as I email it to the operations mgr.. We'll go manual if needed, but would like to avoid if possible.james80 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 6:46 amAs someone who yearned for the return of XP I hear you. This is the key right here Lance. If you do find a W7 laptop it might end up being a short life for it since they are phasing out W7 support.
Here is a question though, do you need windows products? If not get a chrome book. Such a simplistic computer that runs almost flawless. Not to mention budget friendly. Just a thought.

I hated switching from XP to 7 as well, until I discovered an extension called "Classic Shell" for Windows 7, which allows you to customize the look and feel of the start menu and explorer windows. You can have a 'Up' folder button and a status bar like in XP and lots of other cool options.james80 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 6:46 amAs someone who yearned for the return of XP I hear you. Thanks Terry. But OK, now you're scaring me, re. no supporting w7. But if it runs, and only using the basics, it should be good to go, right?toxicavenger wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 6:56 amThis is the key right here Lance. I saw the chrome book, but again, not sure how it'll work with what I'm accustomed using. In addition, I'm running my USB air card for as long as possible, as I'm (as told by Virizon tech support) one of the few that has the unlimited usage contract. When it dies, or it isn't supported. I'll be forced to sign a new contract with the 4G (?) hardware.

I really think you’re trying to postpone the inevitable and as much as it’s familiar I don’t really see any benefit to holding on to 7. Especially as programs get updated and may become incompatible with an outdated OS.
How about buying the back up computer with W10 and using both until your comfortable? I don’t think it’ll be hard to get familiar with.

Presently, I have to recheck, but the software for my air card is W7, and MS Works is for W7 (?).

Looks like a solid choice. I love track points! Surely one of IBM's best inventions. Yes it is, and it is free. It will restore many of the features we loved in Windows XP, that were removed from Windows 7.AZpops wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2018 5:04 pmIs that a program?
