MacBook Owners - keep it plugged in!
If you use a MacBook, try to keep it plugged in & charged.
I use my MBP in my studio all day on the battery, then plug in the charger in the evening.
I've done this for 3+ years. A few months back, I noticed a 'Service Battery' message when I click on the little battery icon.
Apparently, this is because I've gone through over 800 battery 'cycles' - ie. using the laptop on battery until low, then I charging it up.
Having read up on it, I've now bought a 2nd charger, and have it plugged in all day, the 'cycle count' has stayed static.
I've also downloaded a free App called 'CoconutBattery', this gives me more info on the state of my battery.. it's in approx 68% health.. all down to the 800+ cycles.
I've used MBP's for over 13 years, and I didn't know about the cycle count being so detrimental to the battery, so keep it plugged in people!
Of course, you can get Apple to install new batteries, but this is expensive and you'll be without your laptop for a short while.

This is true about all common types of rechargeable batteries. Do they not teach how batteries work in the old country?

Interesting! I downloaded the app and it tells me that my battery is "good", 83% health, it's 1137 days old, 338 load cycles.

I guessed that there may be a small deterioration, but not 30%+JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2018 3:36 pmThis is true about all common types of rechargeable batteries. Do they not teach how batteries work in the old country?
The other thing is.. the MBP's little battery indicator has always recharged up to an indicated 100%.. which gives the impression that all is A-OK, then all of a sudden, it says 'Check Battery'. It's a little bit naughty really, and like I said, I've used MBPs for over a decade, and never knew that it could lose approx 10% per annum.

Good stuff.. your MBP is in good health, but I bet you didn't know it was at 83% health!
Apple should include this info, with tips when clicking on the battery indicator.. bad Apple!

The built-in "System Information" app. provides a lot of battery-related information.

Yeah, I had to replace the battery in the one I'm typing on now for the same exact thing. Sucks.

Batteries only have so much life. At some point the one in my MBP will need replacing, that’s to be expected IMO.

This is all rechargeable batteries. Of course it always charges to but all rechargeable batteries degrade over time. I did not think this was anything new.

I was only trying to impart some helpful advice. Seems it's not needed!
