SBDC029 Seiko Shogun advice

Hey guys. I recently got a Seiko Shogun (with a sapphire upgrade) in a trade. I’ve always been a micro-brand guy and this is my first Seiko.

I’m having trouble bonding with it and was hoping some of you guys could help me appreciate it better.

I know this is a WUSsy question, but I honestly don’t want to flip it and later find out I screwed up. Help?

No lie last Seiko I owned was a Monster with a faulty movement.

I guess I was hoping for some Seiko info. I have no idea what makes a higher end Seiko higher end. Is the movement in this one better than others?

I’m used to reading about Swiss movements and seeing micros use the Myota stuff. I’m lost.

I can't help you. I've tried to talk myself into letting mine go several times. Too versatile to do as it works on most all straps. Probably the reason you're not bonding is you have it on that awful rubber it comes with.

It’s packing the 6R movement, which is upgrade over the 7S or 4R.

Try it on leather. The bracelet is light but has little flexibility.

You're right about that rubber strap. It's weird, like resin. I do have a jungle shiznit. Lemme try it. Thanks!

I like it- I was super excited to get one in a trade last fall. I had this newer version with the stupid X... i despise the X. I also did not like the hands.

Pros? Titanium and classic Seiko dial. Nice watch... but if I tried another it would be the older version with no X.

I assume this is great on nato. Light weight and 20mm.. that’s my ideal nato watch.

^^^Actually lug width is 22mm, and it's made for Natos, but canvas works great as well.

Regarding what makes a Shogun special....

It is a great strap watch. Big but super comfortable due to the Titanium construction. diashield finish means none of the typical Ti drawbacks. Normal brilliant Seiko lume. 6r15 is nice and rugged and has a 50+ hour power reserve. That being said, if your not bonding with it, it probably isn’t the right watch for you.

The 6R movement's biggest advancement (IMO) is the SPRON mainspring. This is a patented alloy which is anti magnetic, highly corrosion resistant, and offers enhanced power storage capabilities (hence the 50 hour power reserve over the 38 or so as seen in something like a 2824-2).

The Ti case construction with Diashield is another unique feature as pointed out by Nick.

The only negative I can point out is the bracelet. It is well constructed, but the style isn't to my liking. I'm hoping CrafterBlue comes out with a fitted rubber style for this model some day.

FWIW, I've only had a handful of unsolicited compliments on my watches during my years of collecting. The Shogun is one that gets compliments. It punches well above its cost.
