First of 2018 - Nethuns
Welcome the first of 2018. The Nethuns Lava Steel - model LS112.
First off I wanted to say how good the service was buying from SeriousWatches.com was. They are based in the Netherlands and I dealt with a rep named Mark. I emailed wanting to confirm the price I saw on their website because in the check out it was lower than the 349 euro price that was posted and also to inquire if shipping was included and what courier they used. He responded quickly and answered all my questions. The watch was $288 euro SHIPPED for non EU buyers . We went back and forth and couple times and I decided to go for it. Really glad I did. The watch shipped Jan 4th with FedEx Int'l economy with an expected delivery of Jan 11 but I got the package yesterday ! Talk about lightning fast ! It cleared customs in a flash which is why I got it so early and I asked FedEx to hold for pickup over the phone. I would have had it Monday otherwise.
I got a nice personal note in the package which was a super nice touch. I am definitely gonna keep these guys bookmarked for the future.
Now onto the goods
What pushed me over the edge was the killer green sunray dial and green ceramic bezel insert. I was still a bit worried about the size but the video that SeriousWatches posted on YouTube showed that it could be worn by mortal men, so I decided let's do it.
It's a great size, it's got presence but without going overboard. L2L is right on the edge (50mm) and no overhang on my 7" wrist. Fit and finish is excellent - The case is 45mm wide/16mm thick brushed with high polished case sides. 120 click unidirectional bezel action is great and the dial is just spectacular. The sunray green sandwich dial is similar to the Rolex sub hulk but with a bit more sunray punch. The 24/24mm stock green suede strap with black leather backing it comes with is excellent and goes with the watch perfectly. The lume is beautiful as well. Appears the bezel is c3 and the dial bgw9. It's very crisp and nicely applied as you can see in the pics. The movement used in this watch is the Seiko NH35 hacking auto.
My only gripe is the buckle is large and too wide. It is well made but I'm just not crazy about the design where it tapers outwards adding excess width. If it was straight it would wear much nicer IMO. A minor issue and solved with a quick buckle swap from the spare parts drawer.
Otherwise everything about this watch is spot on and is an extraordinary value for the $$ right down to the nice wooden presentation box and manual with international warranty and documented serial number/purchase date.
This most definitely is a keeper in my books !
Enjoy the slideshow folks

Congrats Danny, I dig that one. Interesting case. How’s the bezel action? It looks like it would be harder to turn with no edge detail.

I was all set not to like it, but it's sort of cool. One of the better green watches.

You would think so, but not the case as all.Nellipj wrote:Congrats Danny, I dig that one. Interesting case. How’s the bezel action? It looks like it would be harder to turn with no edge detail.
I show and discuss bezel right around 2:50 mark.

Nice, Danny; I dig the green.
I'd be interested to see it alongside the Hammerhead when you get a chance.

For sure I'll get some posted tonight in this thread
Re: First of 2018 - Nethuns
Bezel action is great actually. The crown is a bit of a challenge though it's hex shaped and a bit to get a good grip. Again not bad but not the easiest. It's tolerable and isn't a deal breaker for meNellipj wrote:Congrats Danny, I dig that one. Interesting case. How’s the bezel action? It looks like it would be harder to turn with no edge detail.

Congrats Danny! I like it. Looks like they got inspired by VDB though...

Definitely a mini VDB. No doubt about that. Which is why I got this one. Always liked the VDB designs but they are just to gargantuan for me to pull off. This one scratches that itch.Marjak wrote:Congrats Danny! I like it. Looks like they got inspired by VDB though...

Wow another very cool piece
You guys are killing me. I don’t have any big divers at the moment, which is why I have Mark’s Puck inbound, but that looks great. Congrats!!!
Diving in 35 degree water for the next 4 days ;(

Very nice Danny, great purchase!!
Re: First of 2018 - Nethuns
Congrats- I really like the dial and the green.... Looks like a massive watch though with those lugs....
Re: First of 2018 - Nethuns
Honestly its not as massive as the photos make it out to be. I would say it's a bit larger than the Doxa 1500T with the Doxa being thinner (height)jimyritz wrote:Congrats- I really like the dial and the green.... Looks like a massive watch though with those lugs....

Diving in 35* water? Where the heck are you going? (scratch that - I don't have clearance to know).
I'll be surfing in 40* water though!
