Vindicated by Hodinkee

Post by CGSshorty » Tue Dec 19, 2017 10:17 am

After getting snubbed by Worn & Wound, I feel vindicated by this nice mention from Jason and Hodinkee. The other watches are all fantastic, and a few great ones didn’t make the list.

I tried on the tiny PAM Sub yesterday. It was tiny.

They keep missing the obvious. A 44mm 305 would be just perfect.

There goes that fucking Jason again, with his exquisite taste, actual real-world dive experience, and solid writing chops.

Yes. Although...I tried on the new, slimmer 1305 too. It was huge (even on me!) but was surprisingly comfortable. I was about 90% of the way there. A 44-45 version would have made the sale.

Being honest, I’m still thinking about that 1305.

Also tried on the JLC Deep Sea chrono. What a beautiful watch! I had visions of it on nato. My price was pretty close to the 1305, but I worry a bit about JLC being a bit delicate.

And 389. The 42mm sub is borderline small

Great stuff.
Hate the Citizen but like all others though I don’t wear square watches so the B&R would be out for me.
I tried on the new Pam sub and fell in love. Too$ for me now or id own it
The Rado is small but a great looking Watch.

A tiny, but correctly proportioned PAM would be pretty interesting I be. Probably not a Sub though.

I’ve alwats wanted a 305. Tried on a 1305 and like everything except the dumb blue seconds hand. It’s like Panerai always has to nail all but one little detail, and that one they junk up royally.

Davidsw has a 305 that I’m thinking about but it’s older and I’m concerned about service costs.

The Sinn, Rolex, Doxa and Seiko are checked off the list. The Seiko just landed.

Of course Chris, written by one of our own Jason H...I tried on the B & R and it wore like a 44MM. Love the Panerai but hate the $8700 price tag..That Rado is kind of cool..Owned the Bremont for a month and returned it twice--bezel misaligned-drove me nuts

Sounds like seiko. There's almost always something wrong with them: price, size, clasp, end link, etc

The Sinn and Mil-Spec are outstanding. IMO, Rolex ruined the Seadweller.
