7002-7009 A1 Complete overhaul

Post by DDW » Wed Nov 29, 2017 12:56 pm

Hello,
I'm sending my Seiko diver for a overall, new gaskets, however I am not touching the bezel, dial and hands. The case is cleaned not polished.
The original movement has served well, no rust anywhere.

I sourced a excellent condition movement for parts, and I located a new Seiko balance, stem, and I think it will be running good again for another 25+- years.

The stem was really worn out.

I ordered a authentic Seiko bracelet for the watch, and I have the rubber band also.

It's great to be able to restore a watch back to original condition, my Rolex 5513 has been put away in the showcase with the other Roles watches. I realized that the Seiko needed to be used daily and the Rolex needed to be used for other occasions.

I'm really real, I live in Alaska, and I am working on a Seiko diver.

This is my Rolex 5513:

The Seiko is from March 1991, I'm not wanting to make it like new, I want a daily wearing diver, I'm semi retired and I like working in the garage, and shop fabricating things.

More Seiko photos:

I have the Rolex 5513, and two others.

I really am lost here, I thought that restoring old Seiko diver watches were cool. Anyone else have a 7002-7009 a1 cleaned, serviced, restored?

Thanks, I think vintage watches are cool, they have a great history behind them. My first Seiko was purchased in 1981, a chronograph that I worn out from wearing it every day, after 12 years it was beat to death. That was a cool watch.

This Seiko 7002-7009 A1, when I disassembled it, I found that the movement was in pristine condition, except for the wear and tear from years of service. The stem was worn out, it was about ready to come off the winding stem. The crystal is in decent condition, I am going to not replace it, just the rubber gaskets need replacing. I sent to my watch repair man with the case cleaned, however, I still want it put in the ultrasound cleaner. It was pretty dirty under the bezel, between the lugs. The dial and hands are in excellent condition.

Overall, I am really pleased with the Seiko watch, it should be a excellent time keeper.

I'm semi-retired in Alaska, and I have a personal armory full of firearms, I am a gunsmith, working on cleaning, repairing and service. Alaska is the place for me, I enjoy the freedom of Alaska, the people are great here it's like being in another country.

The armory is really cool, it's set up exactly what I wanted, I have different sections:
bayonet weapons from WWI, WWII, the Vietnam war, (and several smaller wars)
hunting
shotguns
handguns, from different countries, the U.S., and military side arms
assault weapons

Up here in Alaska we don't have any firearm controls, we can purchase any legal firearm approved by the ATF.

We are a NRA state down to the people who are in political office who are for the people of Alaska.

You must not be Anchorage, maybe in Eagle RIver or farther out. Most of the people in Anchorage are scared of guns it seems.

I'm in the valley, and I open carry a 1911, .45. I get some looks when I go into Anchorage, Olive Garden, Sam's, the mall. When I have a formal occasion I wear my Glock, or Colt out of sight.

Most of my clients don't say anything about open carry, I am just glad I can carry a firearm and not worry about being a victim of a crime or animal attack.

KBK AKM 1965:

I hand built this blued Polish firearm, all original Polish parts period correct, serial numbers match from 1965.

IMG_0210.jpg
Hand set rivets, factory used rivets in the production.
IMG_0206.jpg
Stock assembly is authentic and it's not been refinished.
IMG_0208.jpg
Sling I'd the correct one.
IMG_0209.jpg
The bayonet is period correct, the barrel was made in Poland.
IMG_0218.jpg

This firearm was a lot of work, approximately one year to educate myself on the firearm, sourcing the correct parts, bluing, assembly of the rivets were a lot of work to make them exactly correct, same with the headspace.

It operates like a hellion, a really bad ass firearm, and the ammo is cheap, so I have a dozen factory magazines for home defense to backup my RRA AR-15.

Thanks everyone, I am very pleased that I can fabricate, weld, repair, most anything, for me, I enjoy complex issues and not be frustrated with. My next door neighbor is unable to work with his hands without burning down the house, however he is a great engineer, and a friend.

A Remington rolling block, nickname the McKinley, a 45-70 BAMF.

I enjoyed building firearms, all original mostly, however I have other custom built firearms like my 45-70 rolling block that I literally built by hand, every piece was hand fitted to work smoothly, nothing escaped my customization, not even the sling was hand made. Now I need the Seiko diver for hunting, it's robust and not a light duty watch, it will take it and keep on running.

My sister lives in Anchorage and has a camp out on the Russian River. I don't go out much any more though.

Bad ass work on the weapons also.

Oh and there are a ton of Seiko nuts here.
