Even in Montana I can find Chelsea ships clocks

Post by River Rat » Sun Oct 29, 2017 6:40 am

Well went to a auction in Montana the other day. There were three things I wanted to bid on. A WW1 Navy recruiting poster, Argentine issued air force 1911 pistol and a Chelsea ships clock. Well the poster and pistol sold more than my comfort zone and the clock would not be put up for bid until about the end of the auction after five hours I was ready to go home so put a absentee bid and put the max were I knew no body could make enough money on fleabay if they were buying it to sell and were I can get it cheaper than fleabay. Check 3 hour later on line to watch the bidding on it and I won it. A few photo's

Mite have a Seth Thomas sweep hand but it's a early Maritime commission clock from WW2. The hand mite of been changed during a service and it has a cool service sticker on the back dam from my old neck of the woods the bay area who would think I can still find this stuff were ever I live in the wild. Who knows mite of came off a Liberty ship or a Victory ship of WW2. My other maritime commission clock the serial number was blank this one has one another cool thing about this clock. One thing this clock was used as intended used as a working clock you can tell with the cool aged patina.

That is very cool.. wouldn't look out of place in a modern designer type house. Congrats!
Excuse my ignorance, does something like that need winding daily? and is that a power reserve indicator on the right?

Most ships clocks have a eight day movement. I wind all my clocks once a week.

For you and you collect guns and collector knifes they sold cheap but the only one I wanted a Sistema 1927 Argentine Colt .45 ACP 1911A1 Pistol issued to the air force sold for more than I wanted to pay. You would of went nuts and spent some money. Look at the sold prices.

Guns seem to go very cheap there.
