id agree, they do well with user experience generally. That said its innovation that lacks as of late. i always felt they put UX first and do well with it.hoppyjr wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2017 12:43 pmIn fairness to Apple (and their not being first to market) when they do launch a product it generally works as intended, without too many bumps in the road.ItnStln wrote:Yeah nothing was earth shattering. The LTE in the Apple Watch? Samsung has had that for three years. The Apple TV 4K? There's been a Google Chromecast that supported 4K for like two years. The iPhones? There was nothing new in them that Android hasn't had for years. I remember using my face to unlock my Samsung Galaxy Nexus in 2011.ericf4 wrote:I always look fwd to seeing apple announcements even though I'm not an iPhone user. Todays around iPhone x was a yawn. Am i missing something? Everything they talked about, my Android pretty well already does. Using your face to unlock the device quickly, yes. Having an edge to edge screen, yes already done. Hmm at a grand, i would want some stuff thats new and different. Were there any new features i missed that are actually not a redo of stuff already done before? I know that innovation cycles can only produce so much more unique feature sets as product categories mature but man Apple used to blow me away with the way you could interact with their devices and the capabilities they could empower users with.
I mean shit, people in the crowd were applauding using your face to unlock the device like it was the frickin moon landing......crazy.

I was an early adopter of most tech stuffy up until now. Started with the Palm/Qualcomm phone as my first official smartphone. Every android device I tried (again, early adopter) was buggy, but every iPhone or Apple device was rock solid. I'd prefer the latter, so I'm all Apple now.
Re: iPhone X
Early Android devices were buggy as fuck and fragmented experiences made them piss poor for UX. That's all changed thankfully

My whole family is in the Apple ecosystem so I'll prob get one of the new ones later this year/early next year. My company reimburses me for my phone so the $1k isn't a deterrent.

Re: iPhone X
I am sold on the iPhones as well. My first smartphone was some Samsung windows mobile phone, way back before the first iPhone. Even when Microsoft had updates, Samsung might not use it. Even when Samsung use it, Verizon might not give it to you. All that changed with iPhone. I could never use android in the family cause the wife and kids would probably download apps with viruses.

Re: iPhone X
Since I've gone with the Samsung S7 edge, I'm not sure I could go back to apple. It does everything and more that my gfs iphone 7 does. I like being able to customize things, even to the point where I use nova launcher instead of the Samsung. Fast, great battery, etc.
I always looked at Apple as an innovator until the 6,7, and now 8/x. They simply play catch up to the rest, call it a fancy name, and the apple fans go wild.

I like IOS fine. I wish I had water proof and screen that didn't break. Between the 5 of us, I pay for about 2 replacement screens a year. Wireless charging I like just because my kids go thru charging cords like crazy too.
Re: iPhone X
Nova Launcher is great! I agree with you, since the iPhone 6 apple has been playing catch up.zepp21 wrote:Since I've gone with the Samsung S7 edge, I'm not sure I could go back to apple. Just read this...
Apple has argued in court that iPhones are only guaranteed to last one year.

Same here. I had an early Android and it was way too buggy.hoppyjr wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2017 12:54 pmI was an early adopter of most tech stuffy up until now. Almost everything in the house is Apple at this point.
Re: iPhone X
You cannot compare early android to today's phones as a comparison. It's like saying a 1980 vehicle doesn't run as well as your 2017.

Interesting that they've gone back to earbuds with a cable, albeit with a lightning connector. They are also including a lightning to 3.5mm adapter with all new models.
I like my 6S plus, I had a 5 for more that three years and expect to have this for while.

Where did you read that? The new AirPods 2 are are coming out soon, but basic ear pods have always been included. They did them with the lightning adapter starting last year when they removed the headphone jack.james80 wrote:Interesting that they've gone back to earbuds with a cable, albeit with a lightning connector. The AirPods are a separate purchase at like $160, which is crazy. They should include them with the iPhone x for the price..

THIS.....as i mentioned this was true of early android, VERY fragmented experiences......They have since blown past apple for innovation and frankly experience is at an all time high. That said, i totally get why people like apple....easy to use, connected experiences etc. Great marketing too.
Re: iPhone X
Exactly! I'm sick and tired of hearing people bash Android who haven't used it since the OG Droid days.zepp21 wrote:You cannot compare early android to today's phones as a comparison. It's like saying a 1980 vehicle doesn't run as well as your 2017.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Android may be a much different experience, but I have no reason to switch now. I'll prefer iOS and don't mind playing in the sandbox.
I was ready to switch a few years back, but at the time, Samsung had removed the micro SD slot and switched to a non-replaceable battery.

Re: iPhone X
SD card is back in S8/S8+/Note8, which I'm very happy about.
Iphone X is 64GB base, and 256GB is $1150 which is insane but it'll still sell.

Re: iPhone X
Well, here in America, they had multiple studies and iPhone users are more educated and more affluent earning higher income on average than Android users. So Apple figured they can afford a $1200 (with taxes) iPhone.

Re: iPhone X
^^^A biased study done by Apple no doubt. Us Android users may be more frugal maybe, but I'll challenge the higher earners and educated statements.
Re: iPhone X
I've always upgraded or added a new iPhone each year. This time it's no-go. It's not a price issue, it's a feature-benefit thing. The 8+ just doesn't seem worth the change from 7+ and the X does nothing for me. I wouldn't want facial recognition and I LOVE the fingerprint sensor. Oh well.
Re: iPhone X
Do you really the study is saying all Android users make that choice because they're stupid and poor? It's ridiculous to read it that way and be offended. It likely has more to do with popularity within regions, relative cost of living, and targeting pricing accordingly.
Re: iPhone X
Isn't this just a definition of the warranty provided? It doesn't even say iPhones are only designed to last one year...bedlam wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2017 5:15 pmJust read this...

I'm not offended at all and didn't take it that way. I just see most polls as being directed in a way to get the predetermined and desired results. Marketing BS in other words.matt.wu wrote:Do you really the study is saying all Android users make that choice because they're stupid and poor? It's ridiculous to read it that way and be offended. Here is an interesting article to Matt's point above: https://9to5mac.com/2017/01/11/ios-market-share-kantar/matt.wu wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2017 12:04 pmDo you really the study is saying all Android users make that choice because they're stupid and poor? A separate study shows that Android now has 88% of the global smartphone market share. iOS is roughly 12%. In India, for example, Android has a 97% market share.
Drawing any local-level conclusion from that study isn't really a possibility. Heck, in the US, the percentages are still 55% to 43% in favor of Android.
