Am I nuts?

Post by sierra11b » Tue Aug 15, 2017 5:05 pm

Having the thought of moving both my Black (on bracelet) and White XVIII's for the Blue dial GV.

I always get to this stage at five nice watches in the collection knowing the potential service overhead of longterm ownership.

I'd have to shell-out $500-1200 depending on what condition I purchased, and assuming I got what I wanted for each.

Thoughts?

I love the GV, but not sure I would make that trade. The IWC's are pretty under the radar. The GV is...not. I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

If you were making another run at a 116600, though...

Not a fan of the GV. In general the Milgauss seems a bit overdone IMO, I did see one with stealth dlc coating and it looked sharp.

Like the blue dial GV way better in the metal. If that's what you want, go for it.

Both my IWCs have wear marks. I ditched the oem strap but procured an IWC 20mm strap for NATOS which is great.

I don't know... maybe I'll just cringe and wait for this to pass.

You love those IWC's so I'm thinking you'll have remorse.

Service is so far down the road you'll likely not own either by then, so don't let that be the factor.

If you really want the GV, consider letting one IWC go and maybe something else.

Hated the blue Milgauss in release photos, love it in person. I'd buy another, and I'd definitely trade both those IWCs for one.

Should be said I've owned the OG black dial GV twice. LOL

Loved it but it was the same sort of relationship with the MM300, of which I've owned 3. Can't explain it but always want it back like most here can relate.

I really love the Mk. XVIIIs but am having one of those "I'm not made of money and wish I had it back" moments. I think I'll need to check out the blue dial in person before making any hasty moves because it seems a shade too light in some pics.

The Mk. XVIII is everything I could want in terms of adjustable bracelet, perfect size, and fantastic NATO watch. It literally fills the long gone 16710 and 116600 void in the same kit, but (NOW) for half or third the price.

Did I just answer my own question?

As much as I love Rolex and all the watches I've owned from them, perhaps it's best to wait for a PM exit model (116718, 116619 :excited: ) when the time is right, rather than force getting back the crown in any iteration I've flipped.

Push the IWC logo on the clasp and it expands out. To tighten, simply push the bracelet in. It is by far the easiest adjustable bracelet I've used.
