Anybody here been to Cyprus?

Looks interesting, especially around Paphos. Still thinking affordable non-US retirement locations.

Been to both, and would also recommend Malta.

I spent 8 months in Cyprus, and consider it a nice place to visit for a week. I had a friend from the Foreign Service who built a home there for retirement and gave up after a year; taxes, poor bureaucracy, difficulty of finding products, etc. pushed him out. If one is going there, the Turkish side is considerably nicer/prettier. The Paphos/Ayia Napa area is pretty, but gets overrun with budget vacation seekers for the summer.

I only spent a week in Malta, but loved it. Great food, beautiful country, and stable. The only downside is it's pretty small and I imagine easy to develop cabin fever. Diving is better off Malta then Cyprus--loved Gozo.

Enjoyed my week in Cyprus but only to vacation. It can be chaotic and contradictory.

Going to Malta within the next six months, as it is a bucket-list destination for me.

I've been to cyprus, briefly, a long time ago. It was lovely, but I'm not sure I'd want to live there permanently. Malta sounds like a better idea for residency.

Does going to the birthday bash for someone from Cyprus count?

Check out some of the expat forums. I have used them on my plans to move to Costa Rico one day.
