In for review: Glycine Airman No. 1
Thought this might be of interest to some here (river rat!). I got in a Glycine Airman No. 1 for a review I'm writing. This one is a near 1:1 re-issue of Glycine's 1950s Airman, with a 36mm case, acrylic crystal and high polish case. Not sure I could get used to wearing 36mm long term but I have to hand it to Glycine for going full on retro. This one is the "GMT" version with standard 12-hour timekeeping via the main hands and a thin 24-hour hand, with which you can track two additional time zones on the dial and locking rotating bezel. They do also make a "purist" version with a single 24-hour time display with which you can then track two time zones.
Some photos (pardon the pubes, er... cat hair):
I'll be writing this one up for Hodinkee in a few weeks.

Man if they did that in 40-41mm that would be a killer piece.
Oh and nice strap brother!

This watch has always held a special attraction for me. Not sure why. It's always been on my list of watches to someday own.

Funny , I just noticed that on Glycine's site today. As Terry said, at 42mm I'd be a buyer. I'll probably pick up a Base 22 Purist at some point.
Re: In for review: Glycine Airman No. 1
I've got the silver dial incoming. Invicta is supposedly discontinuing all the old models for garish replacements. I don't think you'll see one like this again.
Re: In for review: Glycine Airman No. 1
let's hope this leads to more discontinued watch discounts in the short term.
those pics certainly look like solid vintage looks in a modern watch.

That is very nice!
18mm or 20mm lugs?

20mm lugs. The case is small at 36mm but the lugs are long so hopefully it wears a little larger. Still, it'll be small.
Re: In for review: Glycine Airman No. 1
I guess it the same size as my vintage one the lugs do make it look bigger and you get use to the size it will make you think different about a 36mm case and you mite ad another like I did with the RAF Omega 53. The coolest thing about the vintage one is the wire hacking device were a wire pops out a hole at the 24 to stop the second hand just different that no other watch has that's what made me go vintage on this one.
Re: In for review: Glycine Airman No. 1
Just arrived. It doesn't wear as small as I thought it would. The lug to lug makes a big difference. I really like this a lot. The silver dial has a brushed bezel and brushed lugs. The black dial is all polished.

Looks very good! Like it on leather and should also look great on a green nato.

That is how the Orion wears also. It is 38mm with 49mm lugs. It wears great.
Congrats on it.

Here is the article Jason wrote and great reading hey Jason good work even if I was a little late reading it and right on the history part. One thing he said about the vintage ones being a obscure cult favorite is right I gravitate toward vintage watches most don't own the rare and unusual.
