has anyone else used proraso shaving cream?
i've been trying out some different shaving creams in the past few months. got a tube of proraso right before xmas and i've been surprised at how much of a difference it made. i've been mostly using taylor of bond for the past few years. i wish the proraso had a nicer smell. it's not medicinal or something, but i got used to the taylor of bond. but that's a minor nit pick. been getting much smoother shaves and great, thick lather from just a little bit.

Odd, with all the flailing around I've done looking for the perfect shave combo, I've never tried Proraso. I would suggest you give Sampson All Natural a try. One of my favorite razors is a Merkur Futur, but I couldn't use it with Feather blades, just too harsh even dialed way down. I tried Trumpers, Nivea, Muhle, TAOS, and a bunch of others, but the Merkur/Feather combo kept chewing up my face until I tried Sampsons. Smooth and an awesome shave.

If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

I use the Proraso red, it's sandalwood rather than that intense menthol.

I guess I need to search around for scents. The one I have isn't menthol. Don't know how to describe it. Not bad, tho.
Re: has anyone else used proraso shaving cream?
i use whatever soap is laying around and the cheapest razors i can find. I need to pay more attention to this stuff.

Used the aftershave lotion. Was not impressed. Can't speak for the shaving cream as I use shave gel

I've used Proraso for years. It's the best.

Try the Bigelowe's shave cream from Bath and Body Works. Nicer scent I've read. Made by Proraso for BBW. I just finished up a tube this morning.

Proraso is the skx007 of the shavingworld
I'd like to apologise to absolutely nobody

Yes, exactly, what most start with and then move on to better stuff. Lots of great artisan soaps and creams out there nowadays. Great site to poke around for shaving stuff is Maggards Razors.7.62mm wrote:Proraso is the skx007 of the shavingworld

I find that baby oil w/ aloe makes a great shaving oil.
No, it's not Tourettes.

Yep, that's what I've been using for years now. Nice lather, pleasant smell, close but smooth shave. I've been using a Merkur Futur (from Henry, in fact!) with Astra Superior Platinum blades.hobbit712 wrote:Try the Bigelowe's shave cream from Bath and Body Works. Nicer scent I've read. You give respect, you'll get respect - you just don't know your place.

Kiehls is what I've been using for years. Works great for me.

I've used Proraso hard soap for years for my gym bag. I use nicer soaps at home, but Proraso holds up better being left in the car all day and the menthol is cooling after a workout. Great value.

Just tried some Proraso for the first time last week. Love the shave, not a big fan of the smell. Might go back to a lotion that I'd used for years and love - Hydroplane by Billy Jealousy. Horrible company name but the product is awesome.
Still, I'd like something with that light traditional barber shop smell. My barber uses Campbell's for the neck shaves which he keeps warmed up. Nice smell.
Any suggestions on what to try next? I use a Mach Fusion and not looking necessarily for the cup and brush soap -I'm kinda lazy in the mornings. But might be willing to try it again.

Buy a decent badger brush ($20-30) and just wet it and lather in the container the soap comes in. Only takes 10 seconds longer at most compared to a cream. A couple of great cheap Italian soaps are Cella and Razorock XXX.goaliechris wrote:Just tried some Proraso for the first time last week. Love the shave, not a big fan of the smell. I stopped using a bowl awhile back as it just seems unnecessary.

My wife bought me a Taylors of Bond St badger brush (I'd been resisting that as it's not a by-product) and soap and dish; can't believe the difference in the shaves I now get.

The simple act of using the brush against the skin (combined with a good soap) lifts the hairs on your face for an easier shave. Even if you aren't going with a good DE razor, using a brush and hard soap is a great upgrade.poppydog wrote:My wife bought me a Taylors of Bond St badger brush (I'd been resisting that as it's not a by-product) and soap and dish; can't believe the difference in the shaves I now get.
