Rumor Mill......SD4k content.

Post by hoppyjr » Sun Jan 08, 2017 8:49 pm

Here's a new rumor from the fine folks at TRF -

Among the tidbits is rumor the Sea-Dweller 400O being discontinued. I doubt it, but here's the thread;

** 100% confirmed Basel info & discontinued models info

If true, I'm excited to see what they replace it with.

It's the 50th anniversary, so it will probably be the double green sea dweller that every has never asked for.

Sources close to Rolex predict that it's going to be based on a 42mm Explorer Polar case, with larger dial like Exp2, semi-gloss cerachrom bezel, slightly dome crystal with AR on the inside, and thicker case back and crystal of course to accommodate 4000ft. Some say it will have Kyra Panagia on the dial which is another name for Pelagos, but that's probably too far fetched to be true.

Placing a 42mm SD between the 40mm Sub and 44mm DeepSea makes perfect sense.

^ truth!

Even though I'm a big guy, I find the SD4k perfect. It only took a minute to get used to the size and now I appreciate its comfort and relative light weight (when compared to the PO XL). I wouldn't kick a 42mm version out of bed, but I'm content with the 40. To discontinue it would surely create an eventual classic, along with a spike in resale value. All good.

I hope so. I can see the logic in killing it, but I love mine as well.

And even better, they should make it in Ti.

I dig it in 40mm. If i had to, I'd welcome 41mm over 42.

I've been saying 41 for years. With a 28mm dial.

All Pelagos needs is a Rolex logo on the crown and dial and it'd be a new SD for 12000$ and a 6 month wait list :)

That's the 100th anniversary model, which is when the first prototype case will be available.

No. And I have both. The SDc is a better watch in basically every area.

Why not? Both made by Rolex :) I've played with SDC several times and do own its bigger, more tech brother DSSD. And from my personal experience there's nothing but shine that separates them now that Pelagos has an in-house Tudor/Rolex movement. IMHO of course YMMV
Obviously they look different if that's what how you compare them

I'm not sure that modern Tudor really is made by Rolex. I haven't seen anything to suggest that cases or bracelet links are made in house. I suspect they're more Omega than Rolex when it comes to sourcing. Who knows though?
