Whisky has killed more men than bullets, but most men would rather be full of whisky than bullets.

The guy apparently came in from Alaska, though.

Truly awful; prayers for the victims. From what it says on the BBC it sounds as though it was planned.

Reports are that he arrived in FL with a legally checked gun, picked up his bag, went to the bathroom to load, and came out. National Guard member as well.

Prayers for the victims and their families.

You can check a gun onto a plane??? Thought only law enforcement could do that.

It was confirmed there was no Canadian connection to this incident. Just can't believe something like this can happen with all the so called 'stepped up security measures'. Doesn't inspire confidence in the system.

Prayers to the families affected by this unnecessary and disgusting ordeal.

Good. No need for guns on a plane IMO.

Checked as baggage in the cargo hold? What if someone needs one where they are going?

Agreed. Only reason I didn't bring mine to Mass. was lack of reciprocity for my CCL

Exactly. What if you are a hunter?

My wife actually suggested a good idea.

Passengers who need to transport guns/weapons should follow the guidelines as usual but instead of the checked luggages with weapons going through normal baggage claim belt area, those luggages should go through a different belt with security guards/TSA checking off and handing the said luggages directly to the owners.
It's a beautiful world! Gerald.

IF they still allow checked weapons there will be a no ammo policy. Pick up your ammo en route to your grizzly hunt. Airlines will tell flyers to take it or leave it.

That too, but what if there are no ammos sold at your destination?

the guy had the gun in his bag went into the rest room and came out firing in the baggage claim area.

Supposedly there was an incident on the plane (Alaska to Ft Lauderdale)...

Been to that airport hundreds of times... the rest room is at one end of the floor...

Scary stuff---

p.s. you can travel with a gun in your bag if you are military?

=====

the guy emptied 2 clips and then got down on the floor spread eagle and waited..

Didn't seem like any security was in the baggage claim area..

The reality is there is nothing to stop someone from just walking into the baggage claim from the outside of most regional airports and doing the same thing this guy just did.

And TSA doing anything to stop any of it is wishful thinking. The holes in TSA screening–both in action, and of the employees themselves–are proven.

ETA: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/transporting ... ammunition (sorry chocodove)

The declaration tag, by law, goes on the outside of the locked firearm case, but inside the checked bag. The deal with the locked box inside checked luggage has to do with preventing theft by air industry employees, not stopping terror.

Sucks, but this is no different than a nightclub shooting, or a college campus shooting. Freak with a beef; lots of fish in a barrel.

I never understood the attraction to airports; we spend an unbelievable amount of money making them hard targets. Your average mall on a weekend or any big city metro station has considerably more targets and are typically not well protected.

Hope the survivors can get on with their lives relatively soon. Being exposed to trauma like this is life changing.
