Other buckle materials
So it does not get lost in the previous thread, I thought I would start a new one and ask a question, polling those you frequent the sub forum.
It would be better to get an idea in the Main I suppose, but lets try here.
So the Roller buckle takes some effort to hand finish, as that is how I am doing them. First buckle took 3 hours of hand finishing, but this is due to learning as I go, and i think I could get it down to 30 mins a buckle as I perfect the process
1)I plan to sell it (shipped via regular mail) for $34 USD. Most cheap nasty buckles are in the $20 area anyway, so I was thinking that is a good price
Any opinions on that price?
2) Who would want one if it fitted the Isofrane but looked the same as the buckle in the other post? Which I cant put here as Photobucket seems down
3) Who would want one in ''real'' Bronze to suit that craze that was going on last year?
I ask, because I would have to purchase the parts I do not make, the pins that are threaded, and the screws that go into those pins.
I would have to redesign them for the Isofrane as well, so not the cheapest of ideas when buying sets to suit 22/24mm in Bronze and then the same but different type to fit the Isofrane.
So any opinions?

Re: Other buckle materials
The price is great... maybe too low honestly. I'll take one in stainless especially if suitable for isofrane.
If you haven't looked into it already, maybe consider a jewelers wheel..I imagine a satin finish can be applied in hurry instead of doing via hand.

Re: Other buckle materials
1) agreed price is great (agreed, maybe too good?). i'd be in for a few in stainless in 22mm
2) i'd for sure be in for 2 iso tangs as well
3) no bronze watches and no plan to add one, so no
you didn't specifically ask, but ti may be a potentially popular option assuming you could source raw material and work with it as efficiently as stainless and at similar margin to make it worthwhile. (i'm thinking pam176, pelagos, sinn, etc.)
as for finish, brushed/blasted works for most, but i'd imagine there is a pam market for a high polished version if feasible as well.
also, any plan to brand any of the buckles? the same "AE" as on the crowns on the side of the buckle would be awesome if possible.

Re: Other buckle materials
I'd love an Aegir branded buckle, but I have no issue with Isofrane buckles, so I'd hate to see you spend a fortune tooling up to make them.
I know it's expensive, but I'd love a DLC version.
At that price I'll buy at least a few.

Re: Other buckle materials
1- Price is good
2- I would be interested in an Iso buckle
3- No interest in Bronze
I also think Ti might be a good addition

Re: Other buckle materials
Bronze-fad, not worth the effort imo
Price-too good, maybe $40-45 for them, give you some breathing room
Size-I would love a 22mm version, the 24mm are to wide for some of my straps
Iso size-would be great, but if it cost more cash I don't know if it is worth it

Re: Other buckle materials
price seems like a real deal....could be higher but at that price you may be able to move more volume (if production allows )

Re: Other buckle materials
Repeated but price is awesome and you could increase it and your margin and still sell the shit out of them.
I would take one in 24mm and 22mm for damn sure. If you made some to fit the ISO that's great, but not if it means you spending more money on tooling and not getting a return on that. In other words, is it worth it? I know I would buy one for both my 24 and 22mm Isofrane straps but I also have no problem with the current buckle on either of mine.
Forget bronze. It's a fad. Sure you could probably sell a few, but I would rather have one in titanium if you do anything besides SS.

You give respect, you'll get respect - you just don't know your place.
Re: Other buckle materials
Price is on the cheaper side imo. No bronze for me but would be interested in a 22mm ISO buckle or regular buckle.

Re: Other buckle materials
Only going to brand buckles that ship on an Aegir watch, so people can mix and match without a brand on it.jtbenson wrote:1) agreed price is great (agreed, maybe too good?). i'd be in for a few in stainless in 22mm

Re: Other buckle materials
Price should be at least $50 in my opinion..lesser buckles sell for more.
Bronze would sell in my opinion. The fad if you will is still strong.
Titanium should be an option.

The price is reflective of me wanting to sell many. My efforts to make them are free!
Bronze with Stainless pins and screws? Then that would be simple
Re: Other buckle materials
I would definitely be in to something to fit the ISO, DLC or brushed whatever is good.
Aegir branding would be a sweet option if affordable for you, below $50 price is less important
than having something special to compliment the watch

Re: Other buckle materials
Very interested to see your new buckle design. Right now the H2O roller buckle Clemens included with the Hydra and then had available to buy for a short time is the one that set the bar IMO.
Your price point of $35 is no doubt a bargain !! Make the buckle compatible with different width tangs and you're set. Then they can be used on any strap including isofranes with a simple swap of a buckle tang.

Re: Other buckle materials
ISO and bronze for me
Re: Other buckle materials
The price is certainly good. I'd also like one in DLC.

Re: Other buckle materials
At the moment I am building more watches than usual, which is not a bad thing, but with being sick (better now) and day job etc, it has been hard to get on top.aikiman44 wrote:The price is certainly good. I'd also like one in DLC.
Have approx 60 buckles in front of me, all that need finishing, some deburring, so some serious time involved as all is by hand!
DLC , no one does DLC in Australia would you believe. I would have to send everything to Germany or Holland, and I will be holding off in the meantime, so stainless finish in brushed/blasted/polished will be it for at least a few months.
ISO tangs I will make in two weeks, and I have sorted a way to make the pins fit an Isofrane and many other straps, which will be in a couple of months ready
Re: Other buckle materials
SS and Ti
Pricing is great, Ti should be more
Bronze I'd pass since most micros sell them for $25 decent quality screw-in buckles and they usually come with 1-2

Ti will be more of course, as it will cost me more to buy the material in, more time and more in cutters.
They will be 6 months away though, SS only for now.
Re: Other buckle materials
Good stuff. Be trying the brushed and polished
So only 22mm and 24mm widths correct ?

Right. To much money in hardware to do a 20 version right now.Danny_T wrote:Good stuff. Be trying the brushed and polished

Well, Bronze with stainless pins and screws can be done without any investment extra.
I only need to source bronze 3mm plate, and 8mm plate I think it is for Isofrane tangs. Draw the parts and cut them out. Bronze is easy to finish as well, so once Terry has a heap of buckles over there, I will turn my attention to Ti and Bronze plate.
Re: Other buckle materials
Is Bronze still on the agenda? I'd love one in 22mm.t20569cald wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2016 8:57 pmandrema wrote:Bronze. You will sell a shit-ton of them
