OK, dumb question, but who punches the holes in the liner? The manufacturer or the buyer? I guess I never really paid close attention to the hole spacing on my straps, but is there some standard for that?

That could be. The image made it look like there were distinct holes in the liner but I may be mistaken.

While poorly executed in this case, I think if a proper strapmaker could implement something similar and play with different materials (rubber, etc...), it could be a good idea. Probably the primary moisture that destroys leather straps is disgusting stuff from your own wrist.

It'd be an easy-to-sell cheap product with probably high profit margin.

I think that custom makers like Camille Fournet already offer rubber backing on their straps for this very reason. Not replaceable though...

You have to be careful though, or you run into the same issue as "topys" on a leather shoe - all that shit works its way around the rubber barrier and then never has a chance to dry because of the rubber overlay. It makes things stink and rot more quickly.

A solid shell cordovan strap would be a better idea since it's almost completely water impenetrable.

I guess it's a good idea for an average consumer who buys a watch and wears it on whatever strap it came with until the strap is worn and then he buys another strap often the same one that came with the watch or very similar.

This reminds me, I have occasionally used a piece of moleskin on the inside of a strap to get a better fit if I'm between holes.

My first thought as well. Leather does fine with moisture as long as it is given time to dry and is cared for properly.

Now that was useful would never use the strap liner but a good idea to help with the sizing. I always make do. Then again I started wearing more perlon straps for this reason. Thanks for sharing the idea.

I like the idea of liner to get fitting spot on. Otherwise it's kind of silly.
