MM300 SBDX001 vs SBDX017
MM300 SBDX001 vs SBDX017
Hey Guys. I've been considering adding one of these to the collection. Can some of you Seiko guys fill me in on what the difference is with the 017 version as compared to the older 001 version?
I've never had one of these in the collection and I have been looking for a clean, excellent condition one of these.
Thanks,
-Dave

017 has Diashield, upgraded lume, and the Prospex logo etched on the crown. Otherwise they are identical. I just went through the same thing and ended up with a 017. I love it.
Edit: oh also the movement of the 017 was manufactured using MEMS technology, supposedly higher precision, etc.

The diashield is a no BS advantage. My diashield Tuna shows absolutely zero wear after a year of being the watch I wear when I don't want to mess up my good watches.

Good stuff as I'm going through the same questions as this will be my next purchase.
Re: MM300 SBDX001 vs SBDX017
The marginal price difference I was finding between used 001's and NIB 017's from certain sellers made the decision easy for me.
Just FYI it appears the yen is making a rebound...in all seriousness now might be the time.

Sbdx012 is more expensive but essentially a gold accented 017 without the crown logo. The diashield is pretty neat stuff
Damn this thread has me thinking I need the mm300 back for good. I'd have to sell the sbge001 to do it but could use the balance for a gen2 x-33.

My Shogun took a lot of abuse and still looked like new . Diashield is great
Re: MM300 SBDX001 vs SBDX017
Diashield is that good? Sounds like I made a good decision on the SARX over the SARBs. I didn't think it would matter that much.

It's not perfect. The color is a little dull and mutes the finishing quality a little bit. It is very durable however.

That's still a positive. My plan is to keep it for mostly daily wear probably getting more wrist time than the Scurfa and I have a fairly rough hands on job. For example I've never made it more than 2 months without scratching a Hardlex crystal. Only sapphire from now on for me.JP Chestnut wrote:It's not perfect. Actually, I recall reading that the later years of the 001 also use the MEMS parts.

It's not like Sinn Tegimented steel or Damasko, but Seiko's process is certainly impressive enough to be given credit.

Probably just before they did the run of SBDX012s with diashield.hoppyjr wrote:I agree.Chocodove wrote:017 has Diashield, upgraded lume, and the Prospex logo etched on the crown. Otherwise they are identical. I just went through the same thing and ended up with a 017. I love it.

Hi-beat also an option. The angle of this pic makes it look larger than it is. Stolen from some other site

Did you pay Mr Pussywrist a royalty for your use of that picture? If not, expect to be served with a cease and desist.

Is that the guy that would send himself watches and then act all surprised?
Re: MM300 SBDX001 vs SBDX017
Guys -- Thanks for the comments. I did some research on the web this morning on the SBDX017. I really liked all the info I found on the watch.
......So I purchased a preowned one in really nice condition. Got a really good price too. It should be here on Monday. I'll let you know what I think.
