WEST COAST ROAD TRIP '16

Post by Grahamcombat » Sat Jun 18, 2016 5:44 pm

One of the kids & I are doing a west coast road trip and linking up with the rest of the family at the ol' estate in Monterey, CA.

We'll be flying into Seattle and driving from there (no time limit), staying in Monterey for a bit, and then driving back (no time limit).

He's 14, so I've already decided he'll drive the obscure areas of the trip. Looking for suggestions on places to see, places to stay, day trips, anything along the way. I'd like to limit us to within the northern and southern borders, the ocean obviously, and no further east than Salt Lake City.

Open to any and all suggestions - definitely want fantastic places to eat.

Pop up to Vancouver, take the ferry to Victoria and then the Clipper to Port Angeles....south from there!

Looks like we're going to do some pacific coast then over to Crater Lake National Park for an overnight, from there to Fisherman's Wharf for another day or two, then on to the family for a bit.

The way back to the PNW starts pushing over through Mojave to a suite at the Palazzo in Las Vegas for a night, then nights at Grand Canyon NP, Moab at Arches NP, a run through Bonneville Salt Flats and then angled back towards Seattle.

We stayed at Red Cliffs Lodge when we visited arches. I highly recommend it. It's got horseback riding and is partnered with a winery. The views from the lodge are awesome.

If you make it as far south as Cambria, we have stayed several time at the Cambria Shores Inn.

San Luis Obispo - The Casitas Estate is a very nice B&B. You stay in a little bungalow.

From Bonneville, you'd come up through twin falls, boise and then the tri cities, WA. if you know an ETA for the tri cities, I'd be glad to pop down and meet you for a quick bite. Or not; depends on your schedule.

Here is another like a big old fashion flea market and antique fair you can some times find cool vintage watches one thing I miss going to since I moved from California at the old Alameda NAS takes 4-5 hours to walk through and see every thing for sale and in summer a lot of women in short dresses to look at. I once passes on a real vintage Omega 300 for 800 bucks needed a service and lume missing from the hands all easy fixes.
