Military vintage issue eye candy

Post by River Rat » Mon Apr 25, 2016 12:27 pm

I say eye candy since most of us including me would be lucky enough to own just one. Now this is what I call a GTG.

Yeah, the RPR guys do it right. If you're a Rolex fan, I highly recommend looking at the pictures from their regular gatherings. Some great stuff all around.

Mike Woods collection is amazing. There's some serious cash on those tables.

There was one watch I never saw before a Longines Swissair 49 GCT watch with a onion crown 24 hrs dial looked like a recased pocket watch. I have a WW2 Elgin and Hamilton 4992B issued pocket watches with same dial and hand set up. But probably the real deal those guys would not bring some thing that was put together to a GTG like this.

Rumour is he bought a big box full of the Mil Subs from the MoD (Ministry of Defence, UK) for a lump sum many years back - it wasn't a lot.

At one of the gatherings someone brought a simple Seiko or Casio (can't remember which)...that used to belong to Fidel Castro.

They also had a link in that link I posted for these real modern Rolex subs made to look like issued ones dam a high price and what's with the date window kind of ruins it.

You'd think that any Speedmaster actually worn on the moon would be in a museum somewhere, or the property of NASA.

Old news, but interesting article about Buzz Aldrin's lost Speedie.
