Incoming Squale!
Bought a new Squale 1521 50 Atmos Opaco 'Super Matte' / Ocean Blue Blasted with the leather strap and mesh bracelet from Gnomon Watches. This is my first Squale (and my first watch purchase of this year). I constantly keep exploring the category of blue dive watches which I can afford (having tried a lot of them in the past). Very happy with this one, and should be a good companion to my vintage Sub. I mainly bought this because I wanted to try this shade of blue in a non-bling case. I was quite close to buying the blue Seiko Tuna instead of this but zoned down on the Squale.
This blue is delicious! Very hard to photograph though. Its not a deep blue, not a navy blue, not a black-blue, not a gray-blue, not a teal-blue (but close), not a purple-blue, not a faded blue, not a sunburst blue, just a rich, playful, matte, non-boring blue. But its very dynamic and its exactly what I wanted. The bezel particularly, has a 'gleam' in the light.
I'm loving Squale's casework (they did make cases for Blancpain in the old days), here they make a 14mm thick watch wear like a 12mm, and the lugs bend down so nicely that it hugs the wrist like a girlfriend. The superflat crystal also contributes to the relatively thin and low profile. I'm also very happy I went for the matte/blasted version - hardly any bling, and the mesh bracelet finish matches it well. The dial is very legible as well with the orange minute hand.
A frequent complaint/issue on this watch is the bezel (which similar to the Sinn U1) has some reverse play, but it is probably deliberate - Sinn states in their case it is for ease of cleaning it. It is also 60 clicks so that might be a factor as to why. Overall I'm happy with the bezel, the clicks are precise and the alignment is fine. Running fast and gained around 15 secs/day in the first day - hopefully settles down, but I really don't care that much. The lume also clearly sucks. The crown at 4 o clock does not dig into the wrist and is almost streamlined with the case, but is hard to grip and screw back down.
This watch can cheer up anyone's day, well done Squale
Don't think there's a Toxicnato that will go with this one though

I really like that one. How's the crown? I heard they were a little fiddly.

There's no problem in the functioning, its just a little recessed into the case and small in size so harder to grip.logan2z wrote:I really like that one. How's the crown? I heard they were a little fiddly.

Also, I am very sure that the OEM leather strap is made by Colareb.
Re: Incoming Squale!
Congrats. It looks very nice on your wrist.

Very nice! Love that blue with the blasted case.
Re: Incoming Squale!
Yeah, same issue with mine. Much easier to use though if you flip it over.blowfish89 wrote:There's no problem in the functioning, its just a little recessed into the case and small in size so harder to grip.logan2z wrote:I really like that one. How's the crown? I heard they were a little fiddly.

Congrats. I love their matte case, had one with a black dial. Should have never sold it.

Congrats!!
Almost pulled the trigger when I got the email. My past experiences with Squale divers is what held me back.
Love the matte cases vs the shiny high polished ones.
