Scratching that Seiko itch... part tva.
I'm becoming increasingly attracted to gilt dials and black/gold accented divers. I do not think I;m ready to go full in with a TT bracelet but... definitely the watch itself.
The Seiko SPR775 "Turtle Reissue" is now ringing my doorbell. I would install a black date wheel and sapphire crystal though. The watch can now be had new for $339. Have any of you become owners of this one and can you comment?
Thank you,
Todd

I don't know if changing the day and date wheels would work, but I've been thinking about a sapphire upgrade too. Maybe black day wheel, and white date, would still be balanced?
I haven't tried the bracelet that came with it. It only gets worn on a ToxicNATO.

Looks nice, Mike. IMO, the black date wheel with white numerals is a must.
I am considering the domed sapphire vs. flat.

I did the sapphire. The black day/date doesn't look right. A guy on WUS had it done and in my opinion makes the watch look unbalanced.

Is that a flat or domed sapphire? Any chance you have a link to the guy that did the black date wheel?
Thx!

It is a nice soft dome. I'll try to find the WUS thread

wonder what it would look like with black day and white date? only curious because i understand what chris means about unbalanced. the white date fills in where the white dot would have been.
but this is why i'm not a fan of day date (and really date, even).

With the large hour marker at 9, the white wheels give it balance.

The guy that did it is timetellinnoob (or something like that). These are his photos.

I like the white better
Re: Scratching that Seiko itch... part tva.
Because it looks better. The black leaves a huge void on the right side of the dial.apnk wrote:I like the white better

I remain in the minority. Definitely like the black date wheel better. White date wheel just too much contrast for my liking.
Re: Scratching that Seiko itch... part tva.
I think that with the black Day wheel and white Date wheel it could be a potentially better option. I had this watch below with this combination, not the same of course but just to give an idea...
Re: Scratching that Seiko itch... part tva.
I bought a black day-date wheel from Harold with the plan to change out the white when I swapped the crystals but decided to hold off. The white day-date works for me.

My Instagram feed handle is mattjmcd_gmt. My -775 is all over that. I like mine a lot. It's been unusually accurate for an unregulated watch... mine runs about 5sec fast per day on the wrist. IMO it's an enormous step up from an SKX, for not a lot of money. I think at this point, if you like Seiko, you're crazy not to have on in the lineup. I think a sapphire upgrade would be cool. Go for it!

The 775 wasn't my first choice of the 4, but I'm now glad I got it. Mine has no alignment issues. Does have a vintage vibe, and differs from my other black dial divers. Still think it looks better on straps, and haven't even sized my bracelet yet. I prefer the date/day as is.
