Unimatic's U1-SP L.E.

Post by AtomicTom » Tue Jul 23, 2019 9:53 am

Not sure if everyone has seen another watch that celebrates the 50th
Anniversary of the Moon Landing yet.

It's Unimatic's Modello Uno “Space Program”, or U1-SP. A special limited
editon with 41.5mm stone washed style white Cerakote coated stainless
steel case, 300m WR, sapphire crystals, black aluminum bezel insert, matte
white dial with cream old radium Super-Luminova hands, and markers, red
NASA logo, white Unimatic nylon strap, and Seiko NH35A too.

Have a look...

I know it's a cash grab, but other than that I don't why they would do it. It's not like they any history with space/NASA.

How are these guys still around after the movement fiasco and handling? I wouldn't want to be a customer after that...

Sorry Tom - I think it looks terrible. Useless non-numeric bezel, puzzling NASA tie-in (and I wonder if they bothered to get NASA's permission to use the logo), and it looks like someone dropped it in a can of ceiling paint.

Didn't this brand have a big issue with movement spacers or something like that in the recent past?

Of course they didn't. To be honest, I wonder how they get away with it.

If you told me that watch came from a cereal box, I wouldn't doubt you.

It may as well say NASCAR.

I’m just loving how they call this finish “stone washed” make it a feature of the watch. I saw a similar finishing on an accessory on the Tacoma forum I participate in and it was immediately called out as a shit powder coating job.

There was no issue. Only Jake from Dagaz watches had an issue/compliant when servicing a watch under warranty. I have not seen any other reports about it. Just that one instance. So I do not think there was a fiasco.

I thought someone here noticed dial movement when setting the watch also...

Matt in Aussieland removed his caseback to show everyone the plastic holder. He then reinstalled it and had some movement. But I think his last report was after taking it apart and moving the holder he had no movement issues. :salute: At least that is what I recall. So basically Matt created the issue.

I say it is still cool for a 12 y.o. who is into space exploration, like my son.

True that. My daughter would love one for sure.

Haha, I just peered behind the veil I guess. What was discovered was less than ideal, but ultimately not that much of a big issue.
I am not thrilled with how they have designed the internals of these watches, and I would not buy another one based on this (certainly not at the prices that they have crept up to either).

I think people just expected more from this "watch company", but did not realise it is more of a "fashion design company", as they just seem to churn out insert fashion crossover brand X / Unimatic variants now.
