Astor+Banks Sea Ranger

Post by AtomicTom » Wed May 01, 2019 10:28 am

Jlswatch (John) had some cool pictures of these just the other day. :)

Just wanted to add a few more pictures, and some information about
Chicago's own Astor+Banks latest.

Their Sea Ranger looks like it will have a 40mm stainless steel case,
300 meter water resistance, a sapphire crystal, and black, blue, or
white dials with luminous hands, and markers, and red, or orange
second hands. Along with Sellita SW200, or ETA 2824 automatic
movements, and both bracelet, and strap options everyone.

A few pictures...

Yep, digging this one Tom. I reckon it will last more than a few posts. Case shape looks really good for a symmetrical, it's quite subtle. Dial variants look good, I like the blue dial and I think the bezel to case depth ratio is particularly spot on, give the whole watch a smooth a balanced feel. And an American brand too. Excellent

Is it me, or do the lugs look like overpolished lugs that you get on abused rolex? In fact, the entire watch?

I thought the same thing. Maybe it’s by design. Some people used to claim to like the soft butter vintage look.

That’s exactly what I said in the other thread about them. The whole case looks soft.

Well I guess they wanted the vintage crap vibe. Achieved.

I held a couple of them at Wind Up last Saturday. Great quality and eye candy. I would’ve definitely preferred brushed case sides with polished edges.

It’s made by the preferred factory used by many microbrands now as you can see from the clasp

Everyone loves the finish this Factory makes, including myself, but some whinies complain about the clasp being too rough around the edges.

Wondering if they will actually brush the sides guys, and that maybe a lot
of these pictures we are seeing are of prototypes, or something. :)

I mean I don't mind it really, because it looks like when you look at the
watch from above, that everything is brushed. But can see where it might
bug a lot of people.

Thanks a ton for those cool pics Luis, and thank you guys in general !

I think it looks nice but hell that’s some buttery edges. I mean yeh we all love vintage - but soften up the edges like that, and it’s brand new ??

Probably a good choice for “certain applications”.

The clasp is very square and sharp and not a good match for the wet bar of soap case.

Not for me-- don't care for the bezel or the handset….
