Undone's Basecamp

Post by AtomicTom » Thu Apr 18, 2019 10:02 am

Not sure if everyone had time to check out Undone's Basecamp yet.

This latest model gives you a choice of either a stainless, gold, rose gold,
or matte black finish 40mm case, sterile, or graduated bezels, along with
three different NATO straps. In addition, you have 50 meter water resistance.
a domed Lexan polycarbonate crystal, 50m WR, nice dials with luminous
hands, numbers, and markers, and Seiko NH35a underneath it all.

Have a few pictures right here...

Looks like they had some left over GMT hands and decided to use them on this watch.

50m water resistance seems kind of weak in this day and age. Heck, my Hamilton Khaki Field Chrono is 100m.

Off topic (sorry Tom), but do you have one of the newer versions? I'm thinking about picking one up, and I can't decided between SS and PVD. Usually I go with SS, but there's something about the PVD model of this watch that I find really appealing.

No, I have one of the older, 38mm, models with the Valjoux 7750 movement.

FWIW, it wears really well for being on the small side, although the movement makes it a bit thick.

It’s actually one of the more accurate mechanical movements I’ve owned.

Thanks. Yeah, it's the thickness that gives me pause. Pretty common issue with the Valjoux 7750, and the "new" Hamilton movement is just a modified 7750.

What gmt ?

They really could have improved WR, i agree. It’s not that hard or expensive these days

Doesn't that orange hour hand look like it ought to be a GMT hand? It looks like it belongs on an Explorer II to my eye.

I personally don’t dislike it, but yeah it looks like a large gmt hand. You said it looked like they had some GMT hands left over and i asked what GMT because I didn’t know they made one and was curious what it was

You know was thinking that hour hand design looked familiar guys.

For some reason just like Brice, I didn't notice the GMT style until
you pointed it out Chris. Have to say, not sure have ever seen
that style of hand used as an hour hand. Definitely is different right?!

Oh, and have to agree, the 50m WR was kind of surprising. Guess they
kind of guessed most of us would never go that deep beneath the water
though.

Just is great hearing your thoughts guys. Thanks so much !
