Ianos Watch's Avyssos

Post by AtomicTom » Mon Feb 11, 2019 11:09 am

Hey everyone, here is something different from a company called Ianos.
Have you had time to check them out?

Their first watch, the Avyssos pays tribute to ancient Greek history,
along with their free diving history. With details like a 44mm stainless
steel case, 300m WR, domed sapphire crystal, textured sandwich dials
with luminous layer revealing luminous numbers, and also oblong diving
stone shape markers (kampanelopetra). Along with Antikythera shaped
running indicator at 6 o'clock, brushed, and engraved bezels, leather
straps, and hand winding ETA 7001 movement.

Just a few pictures...

Interesting and novel case design. The bezel, without darkened lettering, almost looks like a sterile bezel. Overall it's a heavily used look, though.

I think the case shape is fabulous, it's great to see such an unusual caseback, especially with a channel for NATO straps. Most unexpected. But I cant quite get my head around the dial, it's not quite right. I think a lot of thought has gone in to the case but dial and bezel seem thrown together. Nothing is in harmony, bezel is too sterile for the texture of dial. Why 2 different colour hands? And the circular running seconds, based on the Antikythera machine does not suit the teardrop markers.
Overall fail for me

You make some excellent points Eric, and Jeremy that's for sure !
Just really liked how the watch gave you this nice vintage skin
diver vibe, but then even went back further with those diving
stone markers, and whole Antikythera theme. :)

Even the look, along with texture of the dial reminds you of
something found at the bottom of the ocean. Something new,
but actually something ancient.

I like everything about it.. I can picture that black dial vintage Lume with a bunch of canvas straps looking really good but no ceramic or sapphire bezel makes me pass on it for now. Thanks for sharing.

That case back is awful. It’s going to be so uncomfortable without a nato.
