It already came up as add to cart for me, went to payment, and then sold out.

It doesn't use numbers or moving hands
It always just says now

I wonder if the majority of them are actually pre-sold to existing customers before being made available online. Hard to explain this otherwise.

I don't know why this makes people so angry at the brand when basically all brands have supply issues on popular watches. It's pretty standard - Rolex Pepsi GMT, ceramic Daytona, Omega Snoopy Speedy, Omega Speedy Tuesday, Panerai 911, Oak & Oscar new chronograph (don't remember name), Seiko SLA017, can go on and on with all brands at all different price points...

They're not too hard to get or expensive on the secondary market.

Oh well. Plenty for sale next week.

It is what it is. Anyway no one expected it to be any different than last time.

halioswatches"GMT order round #1 wrapped up. Round #2 will take place at midnight tonight. Thanks very much to all who ordered - shipping begins early next week. To those who miss out, my apologies! I'd want nothing more than to get everyone the watch they want, but quantities were set way before the Seaforth gained in popularity, and were never plentiful to begin with. They were produced at the same time as Series II but delayed due to the manufacturing of the new (stubby) hand. As for products disappearing from carts, Shopify tells me that a hold is placed for 5 minutes, but I am unsure at what point this kicks in...I cannot say why one person was able to order but another was not. Skynet was not to blame either - it looks like all the orders that came in are legit"

5 minute hold?? lol. Mine was in cart for about 30 seconds by the time i hit pay inside PayPal and got booted. Not sure...oh well, saved 900 bucks i guess..

I don’t have a problem with the business model. They are going to sell no matter what, so I can’t blame Jason for just making them first come, first serve. Some people will be happy, some people will be pissed. It is what it it is and more power to him for making such a desirable product.

Nah he won't care. My whole beef is why even bother. Why does he post on social about these going on sale, get people lathered up only to disappoint all?

He should just email people who bought before and he can sell them all without turning potential new clients against the brand. Or here's an idea, produce more. I know he's a one man shop but at a grand a pop and selling shit out in 5 seconds, he should invest in deeper stock. Or better ecomm software.

I may know someone who could help him on the ecomm side :)

I don’t understand why they’re this popular in the first place. It’s an okay watch.

It's an extremely well made watch. At least the ones I touched and felt were, including my old Puck that was just simply phenomenal albeit large (but that was the trend back then). And Jason is not greedy pricing them exactly what a high quality micro should be retailed for unlike some fast talking, IG enablers-driven micros that are fn insane how much they want for their watches, not gonna name names.
Resale values on his watches are awesome to prove it.

There's a nice blue Gen. 1 Seaforth for sale on WUS that doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast. No vestigial GMT hand either ;)

Meh, there will be 8 of them on recon within a month. But I'd rather hunt and wait then settle with anything including watches 🙂

I understand the frustration. I just don't understand it as a reason to write off the brand.

I think he's balancing a very difficult problem with being a small internet business. I keep telling him to charge more, but he doesn't want to gouge. His watches are worth more than the price he asks, at least compared to everything else out there. Hell, Oak & Oscar is asking 3x and still had a significant fanbase.

In keeping the prices reasonable, he manages to generate loyalty in even aspiring customers, since he keeps his watches attainable despite demand. But keeping prices low means less flexibility in other dimensions. And I doubt he's getting filthy rich off the brand. And he doesn't have as much capital to throw at large upfront costs in excess stock.

If it sounds like I'm defending him, I am. :) I like what he's doing and happen to like the Seaforth model especially. And he's a humble, down-to-earth guy.

Yeah, maybe he's not maximizing the potential of his brand. Perhaps he could be making a ton more money and selling a ton more watches. But it doesn't mean he's running the business wrong. Maybe you'd do it differently. But he's running it right for him.

No diff than getting shit service at a tasty restaurant. I want to spend money and buy in the manner I wish to buy. Online retailers if they want to stay competitive must sell to customers the way that customers want to purchase. In the long run, if an online seller makes it difficult at any point in the purchase process or puts any friction points whatsoever those customers will go somewhere else. Simple.
