45mm Megalodon is finally here !

Post by watches503 » Wed Jul 19, 2017 10:59 pm

For a couple years I was always sending PM's to Mr Laughlin on Facebook, every few months, to please make a 44-45mm Megalodon.

When the news of preorder came, I was disappointed in the choice of bezel, not sapphire and not ceramic. So I passed.

Then this weekend Laughlin posts one FS on FB so I said "whatever, let's do it, even if it's PVD or aluminum bezel". I bought it and asked for price of the bezel inserts for when the eminent scratches come, especially with a chunky beast like this. He answered it's sapphire.

Today my sweet old neighbor stops me coming home after work before church and says "I hope you don't mind me signing for you because I didn't want you having to go to post office tomorrow". Made my day is an understatement.

Just some quick unboxing shots.

It's everything I dreamed it would be. Wears super comfy, about the same as a Tempest Commodore, if you own/ed one. It's a 44mm case with 45mm bezel, by the way.

I don't think my black A1... (blue is a keeper)

and OSD...

...will last long

The A1 bracelet is a lot heavier than the Megs. I wish they shaved those giant A1 bracelets by 2mm in thickness.

So there it is. I almost missed out on a watch that might be my most worn outside of work hours from now on.

I don't think I'll ever wear this without the bracelet and few watches do that to me. The Commodore and the Raven Deep Tech are only ones I can think of.

Thanks for looking.

It's a shame they ruined their brand with this StevRal nonsense.

Every time I see one of those Orient Star Divers I think to myself "what a great looking diver". Then I look at my wrist and get depressed.

Enjoy that Megalodon. Looks like quite the beast.

From what I was recently told, the Stevral name was short term (or it ended up that way) and Steve will continue to run Raven here in the US and Ralf will run Benarus out of Thailand. Benarus has a website again and new social media pages.

Yes I saw that it was back. It doesn't help those watches that were brutalized with that awful name.

I feel you there. That's the sentiment of a lot of people but it makes sense. Ralf is gonna keep making Benarus watches though. SteVral is dead now but will continue to be serviced by Raven Watches. Laughlin was worried about future law suit by Benrus now that they resurfaced even if the Benarus was trademarked or whatever you call it, after Benrus was a dead brand. Laughlin didn't wanna be a part of that and looks like Ralf is making some brass Benarus Morays now and the IG account is active.

Thanks a lot ! For my 8.3in it actually doesn't wear big at all.

Hey what's your wrist size ?

The Revolvers are just about same size but smaller. I love my blue one. I can't attach pic at this time with Tapatalk.

So Steve is not involved with the new Benarus watches?

That's a tough looking watch! The hands (actuallt the lumed areas) are an interesting blend of baton/pencil and sword. Kind of rounded baton hands. I like it and it makes me want to drag out my Benarus 44 Moray models for a spin.

Please don't hesitate to PM if you have a blue or grey dial one that one day you want to get rid of. It was sad to let go of your Remora but it helped a little with down payment on house last year.

Heads up though. The Moray 44's wear considerably bigger than the Meg. Quite a substantial size difference.

Wow that's a stunning example of how a larger watch actually wears smaller (due to lugs, bezel etc).
I'll keep you in mind for the Moray 44 dart.
