NTH Devil Ray 500M STP1-11 Sneak Peak

Post by watches503 » Sun Jun 11, 2017 11:20 pm

Not for me but looks like a great budget Doxa alternative at $450. A bit of a gamble after the 3 Dagaz Aurora models failed to sell and are now being blown out on clearance, but the owner has a big fan base.

BASIC SPECS:

CASE – 316L Stainless Steel with 120-click unidirectional bezel, screw-down crown, and engraved & etched caseback.

BEZEL INSERT - X1-Superluminova-lumed DLC-coated stainless steel.

CRYSTAL – Double-domed anti-reflective sapphire.

DIMENSIONS – 43mm Ø x 46mm lug length x 14mm thickness with 22mm lugs.

WATER RESISTANCE – 500m / 1640 feet / 50 ATM

MOVEMENT – Swiss Technology Production calibre STP1-11.

I'm looking forward to seeing the happy customers showing them off one day.

I actually dig it. Probably the first from him that I like.

Withholding judgement until I see real life pictures, but that's still too much color on the dial for my taste.

too much going on for me.

he doesn't help himself with the rendering that shows so much reflection in the surrounds on the markers. that makes it look even busier. (not to mention that they all reflect different light source directions, which is odd.)

The rainbow inner ring is what i am having the hardest time adjusting to. All the rest looks good.

Reminded me of the decomaster at first glance. I didnt like the rainbow of colors there either but it sold well IIRC.

Interesting release from janistrading. Will wait for proto before deciding anything else. Very appealing mid case design.....well done.Image

The only thing I like is the use of X1. Which is great and super bright. Pretty weird so many companies are able to get something that when it is stupid expensive to purchase from Tritec.

I like the black dial. Wonder what the finished product will be like.

He did a great job with the Antilles and it turned out much better than I initially anticipated from the renderings.
I think it'll be hot.

I like this one (black dial).

I have been following his two blog posts he has made on this watch recently. I really like the case & bezel design contours. I don't think the renderings are doing this watch any justice though. I really like the dial and hands. I will have to make a final judgement on that rainbow chapter ring when I see real life photos. If it is a thin band of color, OK. If it is too thick it is going to look like a circus and I will pass.

The minute markers are off. I can't tell the time accurately from the first 3 renderings. The last 2 are changed on the inner 60 minute bezel so it kind of works. It's a mess.

The ring of color on the dial is a depth meter, based on how colors disappear as you go deeper underwater.

I love it. Nothing wrong with some color. Normally I'm conservative when it comes to colors on a watch, and wouldn't have it for everyone, but I think it is done well here. Stands out.

I want to like it. Too much going on. Maybe it is those fake reflections on the raised markers? And I would get rid of the dark gray color in between the hour markers to limit the busyness of it. Like I tell my 11 year old when she is trying on makeup, less is more.

Cheers, mate.

For anyone who wants a primer on how to use it, I responded to a question about it here - https://oceanictime.blogspot.com/2017/0 ... 6230640148.

Happy to see something we're doing getting discussed here on DWC, and that some of you guys like it.

The renders are just that - renders, a stop-gap on the way to full 3D images (hopefully this week or next), then of course real-world photos of the protos (hopefully before summer ends), when we get them in. Obviously, they're not photo-realistic, we just hope they give a good enough accounting for what the reality will look like.

For those who don't like it, hopefully you'll like the next one we do, or the one after that, or the one after that.

Take care.
Chris

There are many wonderful nth watches but this thing is gaudy. There's so much going on, sawtooth, shroud, tank tread, how many colors on the dial? It gives me a headache to look at.

Cheers, Todd. Continued success in your business as well. Looking forward to your next model. Love seeing the Nordic/Baltic Shields people post, and been hoping to see the Treudd.
