Kobold watch parts,..........
Recently I had to work on finding some parts to fit a friend's kobold that had some issues period after dealing with multiple companies I finally found one that I could get parts from. So I bought some extra parts to see if any of you guys need them.
I have 20/22mm lug bars, small crowns with MK logo on them. Large crowns no logo, polished for the larger 44mm watches. All of the crowns have tubes also. The small crowns are for the smaller kobold watches at 41 mm. Just a heads up these crowns have a non replaceable gasket in them, so if yours fails you have to replace the whole crown period on the large crowns you can replace the gasket. I do have one DLC small crown left. Send me a private message if you're interested.

Re: Kobold watch parts,..........
Just a heads up I sent multiple emails to MK with out any response, so I gave him the option to help, he choose not too. These parts took me about 3 months to get. It was not an easy fix by any means. So I did not intentional try to circumvent MK. But my buddy's watch is broke and it need some parts. So i kept digging until I got some. Now i am offering them to some of you cats who do not want to be in the same predicament. I can't guarantee I can get more in the future.

Well this isn't going like I expected. I have sold some parts to a few members here but that is it. I have had a ton of other people say they interested and then no reply back. So basically I was getting "Kobold".
With that being said I will sell the remaining parts and will not getting anymore at this time.

Re: Kobold watch parts,..........
Interesting Kobold uses press fit crown tubes.
Rightly or wrongly, I've always given extra credit to cases which use threaded crown tubes for ease of future service. While I doubt Rolex innovated the design, I've admired how their tube accepts a torx key so it can be removed and replaced as needed.

You have “invented limited edition watch parts”toxicavenger wrote:Well this isn't going like I expected. I have sold some parts to a few members here but that is it. I have had a ton of other people say they interested and then no reply back. So basically I was getting "Kobold".

Terry - I appreciate all that you did here. I picked up parts and do still wear my kobolds that I have.
You can hate all you want on kobold, still some damn nice watches. Everyone here who has any seals (and I know you are out there), soarways, phantoms, etc. worth it to pick up a crown or lug bar or two - as you never know. Any watchmaker can repair - and if I have issues - I will first call terry's watchmaker.....then jack at IWW....and I am sure there are others.

My concern isn’t really the repair, it is parts availability. What if you need hands or a bezel? I think you might be out of luck.tmw wrote:Terry - I appreciate all that you did here. I picked up parts and do still wear my kobolds that I have.

Re: Kobold watch parts,..........
If we are being honest with ourselves this is the case with every micro/boutique watch brand. Sure they are around today and have spares, but the future is uncertain. Kobold is a good example and when we think of them 3-5 years ago they were pretty well regarded. If they can take such a hard fall then it can happen to anyone.
It’s largely why I’ll be avoiding any small brand watch that is over $1k or so. Figure those under a grand are potentially “disposable” and it’s all good. For long term service & parts availability we really need to stick to the big boys. I’d say Sinn goes with the established brands based on their size, history, and continued popularity.

I would agree with this to certain extent. There are some big boys out there you can't get parts for. Seiko is known to be one of them.hoppyjr wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 9:57 amIf we are being honest with ourselves this is the case with every micro/boutique watch brand. Kobold has been given a ton of hall passes. Most micros' would have been grilled at the stake if they did half the shit they have done. Doxa has used a lot of hall passes also.
I don't price is factor.

Re: Kobold watch parts,..........
^ I didn’t say price was a factor. I’m avoiding micros over $1k or so as I see them as potential wasted money due to future parts availability.
Re: Kobold watch parts,..........
I have been collecting parts as I go with kobolds (WCT is also a source for seals and soarway divers, Gnomon for divas and maybe even fricker direct). I wear them , enjoy them, and don't worry about it with parts and repairs. All watches are a PIMA when it comes to parts and repairs (no matter how easy to get parts or places to repair - think how hard to get omega and rolex parts - you can only go to limited places - especially now with omega).
Im most worried about bezel click springs (those tabs always break) and "c" bezel retention springs (although I have figured out alternate parts - plofprof retention springs work great in kobolds). Bezel inserts would be a concern if fall out. solid bezels tend to be ok and can be refinished.
The movements are standard. Gaskets I am sure can be figured out.
Hands would be interesting, but I have not surveyed what is available for the standard movements. Hell, anything would be better than kobold lume.
All micros would eventually go down the path, however the kobold "homages" do help for parts.
Hell, this all above could be for any micro brand.

I agree with you on this Hop. Ironically, this is one of the things that makes a brand like Ginault "interesting" (note: I didn't say "good" or "admirable" - "interesting" covers a pretty broad spectrum of activities).hoppyjr wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 9:57 amIf we are being honest with ourselves this is the case with every micro/boutique watch brand. The Ginault Ocean Rover is a direct replication of a 5 digit Rolex Submariner case. The only difference is the click spring is mounted 180* off from a Sub (so you lever from the opposite side to remove the bezel). As far as I can tell, all potential wear items related to the case (seals, crown tube, click spring, crystal, bezel insert, bezel retention spring, etc.) are replaceable with aftermarket (or authentic) Rolex parts.
The movement is an ETA 2824-2 copy with the only deviation being the pinion height and shock resistance.
I guess if you flooded the watch and pooched the dial and handset you would be a bit hosed, but even then there are enough dial vendors out there and handset vendors I think you could find a decent replacement.
So on one hand, we disdain Ginault for replicating a case design, but when looked at from a maintainability perspective, it actually makes sense to do this given the absolute wealth of spare parts available in the market.

Oh okay I agree with you there, kind of. If I think about the future that far out then I am not buying any watches at all.
So does the Vertex fall in this category?

Re: Kobold watch parts,..........
No. I said that Ginault's nearly exact copying of the 5 digit Sub case design gives the buyer access to a wealth of after market spare parts. I never said it was good.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 1:16 pmBasically you are saying it is good they have copied a design. In fact I think I went out of my way to say it wasn't good.
If someone wants to buy a unique design micro, the risk of future parts availability needs to be factored into the buying decision. I'd say this about Vertex, or Monta, or any of them.
