Public Service Announcement! Magnetization Issues

Hey guys just a heads up, if you buy a watch or have one serviced and it seems to be keeping shitty time then try to demagnetize it. We have had 3 watches in the last few weeks go back to their owners with a issue and they were magnetized. One was only off 20 seconds and demagnetizing fixed it.

USPS will not pay for shipping cost back and forth to fix this issue. So to save you time and effort this is the easiest route to take. I talked to USPS today and they were of no help on figuring out how to keep them from getting magnetized. Oh and wrapping them in aluminium fool doesn't work either.

But I wanted to make you all aware of this. :salute:

Maybe I'll order a pack of those anti-mag baggies they ship RAM in.

I am looking into that also. I don't know if they will work for a watch though. I can't find any actual info saying they will since the ones used for electronics are ESD bags.

Good point. Anti static isn't the same as anti magnetic.

I remember when I bought the titanC from Nick it arrived magnetized. Not sure how they manage to do that so regularly during shipping...

I have one of the cheap ass blue demagnetizers from ebay. I have no idea if it actually works since i don't think I've ever had a watch magnetized.

Me either, and usually I thought a magnetized watch would lose some crazy amount of time. But one of them was only losing 20 seconds.

With all the online buying (I personally haven't bought a watch from a local brick and mortar in years) I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more.

I should probably pick up one of those cheap demagnetizers. At least those are a quick, easy, non-invasive potential fix I can try at home prior to sending it in.

My Sinn 103 lost about 16 seconds a day because it was magnetized.

lol true.

Yep, a demagnetizer is a great idea. I bought one a while back because it seemed to be easy to do especially to display backs and I went through a big run of those.
