Aged Tan Roo's

Post by toxicavenger » Thu Feb 23, 2017 8:18 am

I had some of the natural colored Roo's that just weren't selling. So I rubbed them down with some Obenauf's, then I put them in glass dish with saran over the top of the dish. The sat outside for 3 days in the sun. Then I rubbed them down with a clean cloth. This is what came out of it.

That's a tough color. If you're going to sell natural leather products, I think it's a good idea age one and then show them with some patina. These guys do a good job selling a leather that's pretty ugly when it's new:

I have a pic in my store blog showing how they age. But I should have posted it to my product page, good point. I won't carry any more of the natural leather though. Just the treated versions.

Here an older one. Ages nicely, although not as dramatically as typical vegetable-tanned leather does.

That looks good Terry, but I expected it would, because when it comes to "rubbing things down" nobody beats you.

They look great Terry. Basically like your other tan color or lighter/darker?

I like this and thought about trying a natural one and using some Obenauf's. I have some summer driving shoes that darkened up quite a bit with some Obenauf's so that's a really good solution for a product that isn't selling, Terry. Hell I might have to give one of these a shot.

Almost. Just maybe a shade lighter.
