ToxicNato's vs the Fleet

So, the briefly floated idea of me taking a ToxicNato strap through the rigors of the US Navy Engineering Inspector gauntlet for a year is now a reality.

I'm going to start this test in Yokosuka, Japan. We know Hoppy loves Seaman, so he's going to LOVE this thread.

Checks on the High Pressure Air Compressor. So far, so good.

Don't forget the Low Pressure Air Compressors.

I have all the auxiliary system checks this week. I'll get you fools some pictures of the ToxicNato vs main propulsion in the coming weeks.

I should take my toxic NATO down for a muff dive for an odor test.

If there is odor why would you go there?

It will be the Darth for the remainder of the test. Sorry for the delay - I'm over a half day ahead of the states at the moment.

I'm happy to report that it survived a week of material checks, Main Space Fire Drills (see below), and a couple moments where I snagged it on pipe hangers and sharp corners.

Now it's on to Hawaii for the same assessment on a different ship. Tough life.

The ToxicNato and the Darth are holding tough after 3 weeks on the wrist. I made it back to CONUS after a brief stop in Hawaii.

I took it swimming at Waikiki and had a lady ask me if my watch was waterproof prior to me submerging. I told her that my body was sure to give out long before the water resistance of the watch.

This week I'm on a Cruiser doing material inspections.

Inspecting an LM2500 Gas Turbine (main propulsion)
Image

Inspecting the 6th stage blades on the LM2500 Power Turbine (I'm standing in the exhaust plenum in this picture)
Image

Inspecting the clean side intake path to the engine. That is a vertical drop to the anti icing piping and the air silencers
Image

The ToxicNato isn't looking much worse for wear. I was worried about some initial checking, but it seems to have stopped around the punched hole.

Sure cool, now get a lighter and stop that fraying before it gets out of hand.

That pretty awesome. It's amazing how we have transitioned from steam to near exclusive use of gas turbines and diesels.
