Still the damnedest thing I’ve ever seen
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

Very cool, thanks.
Hydrothermal vent testing - guess those guys on WUS can wear this in the shower.

Very impressive
For Seiko’s next hat trick I suggest they make a 500m 10.5 mm thin diver like the Sinn U50.
That would be great

Seiko: SBDB001, SBDX001, SRP777
Sinn: EZM9, T1, T1B, 836 & 857S

Re: Still the damnedest thing I’ve ever seen
Seiko generally seems to have no motivation to go beyond 200m on most of their dive watches, as it is unnecessary and engineering for engineering’s sake is more of a German thing.spring-diver wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 6:38 pmVery impressive

Interestingly the 200m SPB143 that I just bought is nearly the same overall dimensions as my U50.
Re: Still the damnedest thing I’ve ever seen
I strongly suspect that 200m rated SPB143 would survive just fine at 500m or even beyond. I’ve seen videos of other 200m Seiko divers pressured far beyond their rating.
I believe Seiko only tests to 125% of the 200m rating due to the cost of the testing equipment, the volume of watches produced (i.e. testing time for production) and the desired target selling price for this model. Testing to the 125% of a 500m rating would push the cost of the SPB13 to the cost of the Sinn U50 which isn’t Seiko’s desire for this model.
I really don’t think there are significant engineering differences between designing a 200m rated watch or a 500m watch. Seiko over-engineers and under-rates their watches (which is not saying Sinn doesn’t, but their target price point allows the deeper tested rating).
