New Seiko Thread

Post by CGSshorty » Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:28 pm

The New Seiko thread on WUS is informative, but otherwise a hot mess. Let’s use this thread to post any new Seiko releases.

These were posted on Instagram today:

That top Turtle would look good with the brushed handset of the 023J.

I’d call that hand set / yellow hour hand a fail. Yellow, or chartreuse?

Speaking of a hot mess...... None of those work for me and I'm not a fan of that lone odd looking yellow hand.

That new Spring Drive diver would be perfect if the crown wasn’t so pronounced.

I think the Seiko engineers worked diligently right through the day these new designs were due. On that final day, they got in early and finalized the implementation of many fabulous ideas.

The working day ended and, thinking they had finished, they all went out for a celebration. Much alcohol was consumed. Sometime after midnight, they realized that they forgot the crown design. They rushed back to the office to finish the watch to get it to production on time.

It's the only thing that makes sense.

That crown... it's like the watch popped a boner.

That Spring Drive GMT is hot. Wonder what that’ll cost? Also hoping it isn’t 46mm.

44.8mm based on this GP article:

https://gearpatrol.com/2019/03/21/seiko ... orld-2019/

And here's a second article that actually shows the GMT - again, 44.8mm:

I love that GMT, but I wish GMTs would lay off the bi-color bezel.

Great idea Chris, the one over on WUS is so cluttered I don't even really check it out any more.

They’re listing at over $5K.

Ti construction, true GMT movement, Spring Drive, even the $5K price point (assuming street price will be a bit lower) are all good. I'm just not comfortable with the nearly 45mm diameter.

At 42mm I'd be much more interested. It could really challenge the Tudor GMT (or even a Rolex GMT).

There is a ton of bickering and dick measuring in that thread. It is hard to get any real information out of it.

If I ever get one of those I would put on it the older style Tuna hands...

That too. Just for laughs, go to the Rolex/Tudor forum there sometime and mention Tudor. Talk about dick measuring, it's comical!

The dial/hands/bezel/case shape look fantastic in this one.
Too bad:

- it is too big and stupidly thick
- the PR looks out of place, as it always does
- that fucking crown

I’m willing to give seiko a pass on imperfect watches when they are attractively priced, but the same shit doesn’t fly at $5k.

Damn is that Arnie larger than the regular solar Tuna's? Because it looks as big as that SD diver

Seiko really needs to focus on fewer watches and just make sure that they all don’t suck. And how about an adjustable clasp FFS? The MM300 has an innovative clasp 10 years ago. Why do the dressy GS models still have a shit clasp with no micro adjust?
