I bought a 6139 from Spencer many years ago for $250. At that time, he wasn’t really working on other people’s watches. Cool guy but he stopped responding to my emails more recently when I was looking for 6139 advice.

When you're ready to move it for $250 I'll be ready.

There's another Spencer watch here: https://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/fs-se ... 63379.html Bad shots of the date wheel stuck in the half position.

I will say it's a very nice example and crisp but GTFO at $1600. I could see $800 but this was a $500 watch a mere 3yrs ago. Whack is right and why I wouldn't mind snagging one more when a good example comes-up at <$500

Spencer isn't the only guy who can service these and I wonder if people think he's the only gig in town? I sent two to John at Time Essentials in Pasadena years ago and they came back perfect in <1month turn-around. One quickset day/date was completely shot and he got it back to like new. Still works great with positive clicks every time. The other 6139 I sent him was my pals and his is still running strong as well.

Three years is a lifetime ago in watches. Three years ago you could get an unpolished complete matte dial 16800 for $4500. They’re three times that now.

So true. I was one of those idiots who sold a 1675 for about $3800 without bracelet 5yrs ago.

I just think this guy is adding a good $600 for the Spencer connection. It's dumb.

It is dumb. All the price gouging and trying to get over on everyone is killing the fun.

Sure is.

I'm not giving up on the 6139 just yet as I don't think everyone got the gouging memo. I'm certainly not done procuring parts for mine. Like I said, part number 888612 and/or complete 6139B movements will set me apart someday. I hope.

lets call it upselling. I remember the guys on wrist sushi complaining just a few years ago you couldn't sell a 6139 for what you had into it.

Yep.

And I recall questions on why 6138s were selling for a premium and 6139s were not. I guess they got their wish. Some of those dudes are sitting on some gems. Good for them.

I may need to look into IWC more, I know almost nothing about them.
I'd add the 3251 to JP's list.

That's a cool one, but too thick for me as a three hander. I'll excuse some thickness for a chronograph, but not for a GMT that functions less well than my 16710. The nice thing about that reference is that it's very cheap and uses the same bracelet as the more expensive 3706.

It’s all pretty insane. I contacted him a few years ago to service a 6306-7001 and seems like he quoted me almost $500 for a basic movement service, case rebuild, and a 10 month turnaround. I had it done for about $200 somewhere else and still have it. His 6139 service is probably much higher and I don’t think he’s even taking new work right now. Knowing the cost of his service and him not taking new work, I’m sure the sellers will find a buyer will to pay the premium, just wont be me.

A little over a millimeter thicker than the Rolex. Not too horrible.

I had nothing against the guy- Spencer- until he started scalping people. When I’ve talked to him in the past he was always very nice and helpful.
I don’t know if I should be mad at the idiots buying these at stupid prices or him for asking that much. I guess since I’m a hater I’ll choose to be mad at both.

Definitely not crazy, but it’s a bit chunky next to the mark xv.

Hey, I don't want to Spencer the guy (that should be a lowball verb now -- Spencer'd ), but like you, if I can get it at a decent un-serviced price considering its overall rate, then I might go for another.
