Fragile Seiko SNE498 bezel?
Several weeks ago I found out how fragile this insert is. Was putting my real 017 Tuna back in the drawer, which has 1" of foam all my watches sit on. The Tuna slipped from my hand probably an inch or so above this watch and managed to do this? I've done worse to others with results nothing like this, from a 2" drop max on to a watch sitting on foam??
I know the pictures look like a huge scratch or crack, but you cannot feel any difference rubbing your finger around the bezel, so it appears it's internal. Not sure what the bezel is made of, but just weird how such a minor thing could cause this.
Not even sure if Seiko has replacements or if I'd even bother as I bought it for a beat around watch anyway.

As far as I can tell that's exactly what it is. I'd understand if I had smacked a doorframe, but just a weird result from such a minor incident.toxicavenger wrote:dang that is weird. almost like it fracture it on the inside

Historically, they haven't sold the inserts separately. You have to buy the rotating ring, complete with insert. What's the movement-case number? I'll see if Jules Borel carries a replacement.

Does it list it as sapphire covered? If not, it looks like some kind of resin or hard plastic that cracked internally. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that.

That sucks man.
But really I’m not surprised. I love Seiko but their cheap watches have some cheap parts/materials that makes them the price they are.
Just like your 017, my 015 has been beat to heck with no issues except it needs a shroud polish.

DEATH FROM ABOVE

This is ironic given that these watches are shrouded so that they can take a beating.... yet the plastic insert is so fragile.
