OMG, why would he have such a lowly Seiko. Question answered.

Try to make sense.
Even he snagged one to quickly resell, or I suppose someone could have traded it into him for a purchase. Guess when Hodinkee is involved, even non Seikoholics jump on board.

If there's money to be made, these guys dive in. It's a riskless flip for them - they can always sell at retail.

Looks really good. I think it would also look great on the jubilee.

I liked the green one. It just needs the right strap. The blue is better, though.

Edit - nevermind, I should have read through the thread, apparently it's long sold out. Oh well. I like it but not at the flipper price.

At the price you're better off with a Citizen Nighthawk in blue... The Costco version of the watch at <$300 is an absolute gem.

Buddy came to me asking for a watch for his soon-to-be Bear Scout on the path to Eagle. We talked about the Alpinist. He didn't have a Costco acct so I bought one for him, plus the sunburst blue is as perfect as the bluesy in terms of how it reacts in light (no joke - prior 116613 owner here) vs. the somewhat muted color of this watch in certain light.

The rotating internal bezel is all the same for compass reckoning if you remember 360 degrees and can actually draw a circle  ...Plus you get the perfect grab-and-go quartz with added slide rule if you choose to figure out how it works, which is an added fun wis undertaking. Did I mention it has a 24hr/GMT hand so if you really wanted to get true north in a flash you could pending the 24hr hand set right? It's just win-win all the way. Plus the knurled bits are damn nice.

The green is nice but too much for what it is now. I hated the muted olive color once it arrived and flipped the moment I received. The emerald green seen in most pics has to be captured in just the right light whereas the blue Nighthawk is bluesy in any indirect or direct sunlight.

Cliff notes... Blue Nighthawk > Blue Alpinist

I always like the green Alpinist, but the Blue version is something special... BUT
For 1300.00, they can shove it where the sun don't shine.

I've had the black version of the Nighthawk and it is cool, but wears bigger than I like these days. I just found an unworn Alpinist for basically list plus shipping, so I'm going to give it a try. Shout out to Terry for connecting me with the seller!

Maybe I've just never learned it properly, but I just can't seem to get past compass points on a watch with no compass... It just bugs the hell out of me for some reason, even though admittedly here they are not too obtrusive.
All 3-handers work as a compass using the sun. The capacity to take a more accurate bearing due to the markings is cool.

Mine just arrived and I love it. The dial really changes based on the lighting. I need to get a bracelet. Thanks again Terry for the hook up!

Go for it. Worst case scenario you can flip it at zero loss
I never hesitate to try something if I know I can resell it without losing money, it's like I'm borrowing it for a test ride in case I don't like it.

I have one here. I am just saying that I believe the Hamilton Khaki is a better buy, and better watch imo. :salute:

Sorry I completely misunderstood lol

Personally I like the dial/hands of the Hamilton much better, but those long and flat lugs ruin it for me.

The alpinist wears like a dream on smaller wrists

The alpinist does wear better. But damn the crystal glare takes away from the dial. I can hardly see what finish the dial has. The compass on the alpinist seems like it moves every time I cough.

So ever since the LE came and gone...Ive been thinking about the Alpinist. Since im not willing to pay for a 3x mark up, what do you guys think about the Green? The numnerals...its raised...I assume its not gold.

Also whats the best deal you guys have seen?

Thanks much
