Tuna shroud refinisher

Post by dnslater » Sat Jan 19, 2019 6:34 am

I bought a lovely SBBN015 Tuna last year from Pat as I always regretted selling mine years ago. Tuna had been worn as the tool watch that it is and continues to dutifully take the "weekend beater" function with me. I found a guy on SCWF that 3D printed a run of nylon shroud holders for placing in a drill and grabbed his last one. Still has plenty of dings, but cleaned up the finish nicely. Interestingly replacement shrouds are very hard to find and demand a high price when you do find them. Anyway, here is the holder and the results. If any DWC members in good standing want to borrow it, let me know. Assume it works for all of the 300M tuna bezels

How exactly does it work?

My 015 is really really beat up. I have a sapphire crystal on hand, but I’m waiting for the battery to die or show low life so I can send it in. It’s been almost 8 years.
I would love to try this and make my shroud look a little better.

My SBBN007 is at 10+ years on the original battery. I might change it before it dies for peace of mind. I don't want it to leak.

^^^This it can still be working and leak into the movement. Which in turn will destroy the movement. These watches didn't come with a 10 battery if i recall. I am pretty certain they are a 5 year battery. So i would get it changed out asap.

It is essentially a fitter holder that you can tighten and allows you to mount the shroud on a drill press or in a hand drill. You can then spin it while holding sandpaper or a scotchbrite against it. Won’t take out deep dings unless you remove a lot of metal but certainly cleans it up nicely.

Correct, they came with a 5-year battery.
