New SKX case from Crystal Times
I am not gonna mention any names but a turtle hoarder I know put me onto this case. https://crystaltimes.net/?s=CT700
Since I have a SKX case that has some rot on it I will be changing it out with this one.

Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
Drilled lugs. Hmm...
Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
I like the drilled lugs option. It just needs a movement worth the price. The 7S is nice and all but it’s still a pile.
Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
At first I read that as "turtle herder"

Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
Can’t you just put a better movement in the case?
Some people just have a way with words, and other people … oh … not have way.

Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
Yes. You have to change out the crown/tube for the upgraded movement just like you would have to on the stock case.

Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
I like this case, but you start getting into heavy $$ building a better SKX from scratch. Ask me how I know.
In the end I have decided that I prefer the simplicity of a stock SKX.

I have all the parts needed to make a new watch. I should pick one up.

Just ordered one on Thursday, I'll keep you posted when it arrives. I went for the drilled lugs option, have a donor watch inbound for dial and movement.

Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
When I get mine I will do some comparion's. They said it is not exact. It is a upgrade, so the lugs are thicker for the drilled holes.

Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
Chrystal times case, drilled lugs, absolutely great. Everything fits perfectly, OEM bezel, 7s26 dropped straight in.
Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
OK, I'll ask the dumb question. Besides the drilled lugs, what's the point? Aren't genuine 7S26-0020/7S26-0028 cases still available?
Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
They are, and I have used one before but who knows, maybe there will be a time when they won't be? And this one was cheaper than the OEM part I bought. It is just another avenue to go down, you don't have to. Prices on used and new SKX are getting scary, and possibly discontinued if you believe rumors.Selym wrote:OK, I'll ask the dumb question. Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
I tried to buy one and it was almost the cost of a new SKX. So I passed on it.

Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
Also, when you start with an empty case, you put in what you want, no need to junk out movement and dial, hand set, bezel insert..... Those who want them will buy, if you don't, its ok too.
Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
Apart from anything else, its a hobby and like most hobbies, sense is not the driving force behind them. I like watches, I like guitars, I love making both of them my own by tinkering with them. You don't have to, you could simply buy a new one, but the hands on attention you put in, makes them feel more of a personal thing. That is just my take on it. My self built SKXs are more prized to me than my Samurai, and probably more expensive (definitely more).Seppia wrote:I see they have gone up, but still sub-$200 on Amazon right now.jimc63 wrote:Prices on used and new SKX are getting scary, and possibly discontinued if you believe rumors.
The rumor has this watch discontinued since the dawn of ages, I don’t know it just doesn’t make sense to me.
I wish they came out with a new, thinner and more premium version, but I know if they do they will probably bump the size up to 45mm, make it 20mm thick and price it at $900
Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
Don't worry, no offense taken, I was just trying to put into words why people mod watches. I knew what you meant, we are lucky that there is a multitude of choices out there. No need to apologise at all.Seppia wrote:Oh I’m sorry for the misunderstanding
I didn’t mean to say that what you’re doing doesn’t make sense, I was referring to the rumor that the SKX May be discontinued.
Sorry for the confusion
Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
I could see a fun, but not inexpensive custom watch like this:
- this new holes case
- the tapered coin edge bezel
- a Dagaz or Seiko dial & handset
- 4r15 or 6r15 motor
- Crystal Times domed sapphire

Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
Add case back, bezel insert, crown and stem, click spring and gaskets, about $320 or £300 not much between them. Soon adds up, but you get what you want, and you brought it to life.hoppyjr wrote:I could see a fun, but not inexpensive custom watch like this:

It really only makes sense (financially) if you already have all the parts like I do.jimc63 wrote:Add case back, bezel insert, crown and stem, click spring and gaskets, about $320 or £300 not much between them. Re: New SKX case from Crystal Times
I had parts, but I couldn't resist upgrading the movement, so ended up with 2 watches, so all good.CGSshorty wrote:It really only makes sense (financially) if you already have all the parts like I do.jimc63 wrote:Add case back, bezel insert, crown and stem, click spring and gaskets, about $320 or £300 not much between them.
