Swing and a miss

Post by Torrid » Sat Jan 12, 2019 6:37 pm

I'm not upset, but I am surprised. My 9 year old became fascinated with my mechanical watches, so I bought her this SNK for $56. This is how it turned out. I think she's a bit too rough on things to have a watch right now. It also stopped after about 20 hours. I think this is the end of the road for this one.

It can be fixed, but would likely cost more than $56 ;(

Exactly. Between the short power reserve and dial spun I bet I would be in it at least $150.

The case doesn't even have giant gouges in it, how did she manage that

Maybe she needs a g-shock :)

It's not easy to see in the picture but there are deep gouges in the crystal. I looked at it last week and the dial was a hint loose. I think the other dial foot finally broke off.

Torrid's House O' Watch Repair just got ahold of this one. I'm still not sure if it actually has a short power reserve because she doesn't remember exactly when she took it off, but it was in her school bag. Anyway I busted out the cheapo watch tool kit I have, popped it open and used a little non-approved adhesive to reattach the dial. Back together and for now running smoothly.

I thought about that but then I was worried I didn't have thin enough tape to make sure the hands still had clearance since the 5 logo is so thick. That and I would have had to pull the hands and I was worried about realigning them since the 7S26 doesn't hack so I couldn't keep it from ticking while working on it.

i didn't realize that logo was so thick. you can let the watch wind down and then remove the hands. but some kind of glue that doesnt' dry solid like shoe goo will work also. regular glue that dries hard will crack from a had impact.

either way i am sure she will put back into the 'shop' sooner than later

Most likely going to happen. I was surprised by the thickness of that logo. The hour hand as it is barely clears it.
