Uncle Seiko Chocolate Bar strap
Pretty cool strap. I have not seen the original version in person but this one is very pliable.

Looks good!
It kinda reminds me of the stock rubber strap that comes with the SLA017 (which I really like except it is super long - perfect for a wet suit, not so good for daily wear).

The SLA017 stock rubber long side is 142mm for reference.

Yeah. Perfect for wearing it over a wetsuit, but I'm not certain who would take a limited edition $3.5k watch diving. Certainly not me.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 3:33 pmthat is a long strapRyeguy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 1:51 pmThe SLA017 stock rubber long side is 142mm for reference.
Speaking of Seiko straps, I am pretty impressed with Seiko's new rubber (silicone?) blend and I appreciate how they include tubes in the spring bar holes for security.
Re: Uncle Seiko Chocolate Bar strap
I ordered the Chocolate Bar during the pre-sale like I do with all of the Uncle's Straps. When I opened the package I noticed it was extremely shiny and very thin. I immediately rinsed it off and paper towels dry only to notice the finish changed to some parts shiny and others sort of dull.
After close inspection I noticed it is not as crisp and consistent in detail like the previous straps ... aka Waffle, Tropic and Tire Tread. Maybe it's due to the rubber compound being used. I have always enjoyed the Uncle's Rubber Strap recreations, however this version might need to be revised . Maybe due to the previous versions, I am spoiled and have very high expectations.
On another note, I have been purchasing many of the Tropic Recreations from the Cheapest Nato Strap Co. and have been very pleased. They also offer a wide variety of recreations from original 60's mold in different colors at the bargain price of $9.99 with surprising quality and detail. However , no matter the competition I will continue to fully support Larry and the Uncle Seiko Brand.

I have one of the cheap-o-straps tropic. the only good thing about them is all the colors available. other than that the silicone/rubber was not good imo.

The Z 22 that came with my SRP777 doesn't have any tubes in the spring bar holes. Is it supposed to have them?
I bought it new from Kohl's, so unless it was a return, that's how it left the factory.

Maybe he is talking about the SLA017 because I have never received them either on any of my watches.

My 053 stock Seiko rubber strap also came with tubes in the spring bar holes. I thought it was just the standard for the new style strapstoxicavenger wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 10:56 amMaybe he is talking about the SLA017 because I have never received them either on any of my watches.

Neither of the 2 Turtle straps I've had have tubes, but my SPB053 did as well.

For some reason I thought this was going to be about Ben’s underwear?

Re: Uncle Seiko Chocolate Bar strap
I've definitely been more interested in straps lately and rubber ones in particular. This looks nice. I might need to pick one up.

Re: Uncle Seiko Chocolate Bar strap
OK - that's weird. I could kinda see them being deleted from the NAFT straps versus the SPB053 straps due to price point differences, but I'd put the 063 as equivalent to the 053 so them being deleted on the 063 puts that theory to rest.toxicavenger wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 3:10 pmMy 063 didn't come with themRyeguy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 12:24 pmMy 053 stock Seiko rubber strap also came with tubes in the spring bar holes. Oh well, this isn't the first time Seiko has done something odd. Maybe the tubes add $.00005 per strap and they decided that was simply too much margin to lose, or maybe they changed the formula or molds to make the spring bar holes more resilient.
In any regard, I've never ripped a Seiko strap. I've only had an issue with aftermarket rubber, and that was likely my own fault for using standard "fat" bars with aftermarket straps. If I had used "slim fats" (as I do now), I probably would've been fine.

I think part of the issue might be where the watch is bought. Most of mine come from gray market dealers it seems.Ryeguy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 16, 2018 4:16 amOK - that's weird. I have made that mistake also regarding Seiko Fat bars in a aftermarket strap.

I picked up a couple of Larry’s new straps. I really like them. The one on the left is a wjean and the two on the right are from Larry.

Here's my newly acquired 6215-7000 on the Uncle's Choco strap.
I also just bought the original one off Yahoo! Japan. I've never seen an original one up close, and I'll be interested to compare them both.

Wow, that’s probably the nicest 6215 I’ve ever seen. So hard yo find, especially like that.2thvet wrote:Here's my newly acquired 6215-7000 on the Uncle's Choco strap.

The NOS crystal and AM Yobokies bezel insert did wonders for the cosmetic appearance.

Re: Uncle Seiko Chocolate Bar strap
Well, here is an update, just strapped on the original Seiko version of the Choco bar strap on the 6105, that I purchased off Yahoo! Japan; having never seen an original in the flesh, I was curious to make a comparison. Larry's repro is very close to the look and feel of the original, and I see no reason to strive to snatch one of these original ones, except for the collectibility of it, because you are really not missing out on anything. The original Choco, just like the original waffle, has the same smell to it... can't put a name to it, kinda actually almost smells like moth balls, all these vintage rubber straps, including the Swiss Tropics, have a distinct smell to them, smells like stuff you find in Grandmas attic.
