Want to Mod Orange Seiko Samurai - DLC or Cerakote?
Want to Mod Orange Seiko Samurai - DLC or Cerakote?
Have a vision in mind for my SRPC07 but don't know which finish is better? I've never owned a DLC watch but have owned Cerakote firearms before.
Which provides better wear resistance? Who would you recommend do the work? I'm thinking of just having the bezel done.

I know MCWW used to (still does?) cerakote pieces. The finish is a bit “rougher looking” than DLC but maybe that just comes down to preference.
I know Jack does DLC but with his recent health issues not sure if he’s taking any work. Harold (Yobokies) does the same but you’d have to ship to China.

DLC cost around $800 in the US. I think Harold can do it around 250 if I recall. Cerakote is more like a beadliner coating. Definitely not as permanent.

I would have it blasted first, then DLC.

What about for a bezel?
I might have to forget about DLC

My next Mod project is going to be swapping a SRPB55 with the dial/movement and bezel insert from the orange Samurai. Sell the leftover watch and you’ll have done this on the cheap.

Not a bad idea. That watch would be great looking.
I also managed to find an all black lumed ceramic bezel. Last one LCBI had.
I wanted a bracelet watch this time around, though... I wonder if that watch with a silver bezel would look goofy for resale? Would the silver bracelet look funny on a black watch head?
I don’t know... your idea may push me into another strap watch.

Pretty sure $800 includes the bracelet.sierra11b wrote:Holy crap $800!toxicavenger wrote: ↑Sat Apr 21, 2018 8:37 amDLC cost around $800 in the US. I think Harold can do it around 250 if I recall. Cerakote is more like a beadliner coating. Definitely not as permanent.

Cerakote and aftermarket DLC/PVD won’t last for shit on a bracelet.

Yeah I don’t want to do the bracelet. Just the bezel

I’ll have to ask around.
If it’s too costly I might just do what you’re doing.
Or I’ll take the black bezel for myself and do the other in tuna gold?

Re: Want to Mod Orange Seiko Samurai - DLC or Cerakote?
You could probably steal the bezel and sell the rest of the watch for parts for less than having it coated.

Re: Want to Mod Orange Seiko Samurai - DLC or Cerakote?
I just typed SRPB55 in an ebay search, found, and purchased a sealed black bezel and crown/stem assembly from the same dude. $150 Overpaid I’m sure but $150 is doable over $300 watch even if for parts. That $150 can do toward the build. Plus I have enough stockpile of 6139 parts that I don’t want to do it over with a current production watch and movement.
Harold was a lot cheaper than thought on just the bezel but with shipping both ways it would have been close $100 anyway. This way I can add a TT crown too.
Looks like the SF Giants game day watch is a go. I shall call it Pinto
If anyone wants to try a reverse "pinto" by buying the SRPB55 outright I'll eventually have your bezel and crown if all goes as planned.

Re: Want to Mod Orange Seiko Samurai - DLC or Cerakote?
Jack has returned and is working just has a backlog...I would not cerakote, from what I have heard it does not last as long and as another poster mentioned is rougher
