Finally a Seiko that looks good but 5k?
For a fucking Seiko diver??what the hell are they shooting up. Insane
Just goes to show you can’t catch lightning in a bottle and expect it to happen twice. The 62MAS reissue was the best recreational Seiko diver they’ve made, if you ask me. This SLA025 is way too big.

I agree, that one is perfect.
But why is it so hard to roll off of that one?
Very sad

If only they had made it like Imagethis it would have been worth $850

I don't understand why this is priced so much higher than the SPB051/53. Seems like they should be priced similarly.

Seiko 6159 reissue!!!!

Post by Chocodove » Fri Mar 23, 2018 4:12 pm

Spb051 was announced at almost $1200 when released. I always take Seiko MSRP with a big grain of salt. If this new one has the same finishing as a MM300, but thinner, it may be worth it. Unlike a lot of people, I don’t mind the hands at all. They just work IRL in my opinion. I can do without the X, but it’s not a deal breaker for me. I’ll probably get one at JDM pricing to check out.

Plus, maybe Creation will find a few that fall off the back of a truck :).

SPB077 = SBDC061 (JDM)
SPB079 = SBDC062 (JDM)

MSRP on the bracelet version is 110,000 Yen ($1050 USD).

I don’t know why, but all new Seikos either bore me or are too expensive in my opinion.

Watches are just like buying a car. Buy used, and let someone else eat the depreciation. Either that or wait for that killer sale price. Another reason I never jump on the newly released flavor of the month watch.

At about the 2:30 mark good view of the 6159, and the SPB077 black with bracelet, which did look good. Appears they are using that great Tuna type bracelet again.

I really wish they had left the dial text the same as the original.

But, I'll still need to add it to the collection. Seiko is taking control of my watch budget this year.

I can’t keep up with the model numbers. Seriously I got lost when Seiko released the MAS reissue and related “X” offerings. So basically I have no idea wtf is going on. But $5k for the 6159 reissue is insane. No go for me.

From Fratello's pictures, it looks it comes with the same silicone strap that came with the SLA017.

Paid my deposit on the pre-order with Jura Watches in the UK.

£5,000, but I can get at least 10% off. Still expensive, but frankly I don't care given the almost nil chance I have of getting a mint original.

I’m still so f’n confused. Did Seiko basically take the MM300 case and throw in a 6R15 and virtually discontinue the entire MM300 lineup with the 8L35?? And if so, am I correct that they’ve now taken the 8L35 and put it in the new releases for a ridiculous upcharge?

Not exactly. These are supposedly the newer renditions of the 6159 with newer hands, much like when they released the 62Mas reissues with the 6r15 and newer hands. So far the only announced new MM300 is the Green dial LE "X" with sapphire and ceramic bezel.

anyone else see the article?
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/seiko ... 9-hands-on

I'm pretty sure the reason for this huge ass gap is because the strap wasn't made for the SPB077/9.
That's not even acceptable on a $200 watch.... anyway.

you can also see the spring bars...

Perhaps it is a pre production version?

That X alone makes it a no-go for me.

Would it kill them to just do an exact re-issue of the SBDX012 LE ? I just want that God damned watch lol.

The really expensive one (i.e. the L.E. 6159 reissue - SLA025) uses the hi-beat movement. I'd guess sapphire and the new bezel probably makes the green MM300 cost more, too.

Nope. Maybe a reissue with higher price. It would be funny if they do a sbdx001 reissue without an x in a couple of years.

I tried the reissue on at the Seiko boutique yesterday. It is absolutely gorgeous, but surprisingly enormous. It is way too thick, even for me.

It’s ginormous. I didn’t even think to ask if they could take the plastic off so we could take pics. We eyeballed it next to the green LE MM300 and my SD43, and it dwarfs them both. The bezel is also extremely thick/tall, which only adds to the height. Beautiful dial and handset, though.

I've had one pre-ordered since about early February, but think I'll probably cancel it. Just can't get over the size either. I was also hoping Seiko would bust out a new high quality bracelet for it, but didn't happen. Probably put the funds to toward a used 114060 instead.
