Any thoughts on the Padi Tuna SBBN039?

Post by sierra11b » Mon Aug 07, 2017 5:46 pm

I'm not a huge fan of the PADI branding but I kinda like the blue anodized portions as it reminds me a bit of the golden tuna I'll likely never see offered new with a 7c46 engine.

What are your thoughts?

The colored bezel edge and blue screws are too much in my opinion. Its no longer a tool diver. The PADI branding is in the same boat as the James Bond Omega branding --- kind of 'look at me'.

There are things I like, but too many deal killers. That blue crown is seiko at its worst. If you want a blue tuna the LE that I have is a better choice I think. Much less goofy.

Agreed, I've always been against anodized anything. Blue crowns, blue standoffs on knives, blue carabiners/keychains. It starts wearing off quick and looks like shit right away.

I don't mind it on a knife even though I know it will scratch or rub off, as it is on my knife below, but it's a knife that I use and it doesn't bother me. On a watch, not so much.

The blue bolts, crown & bezel are just too much. They should have gone the Pepsi route on the bezel insert. I like the dial, hands & chapter ring though

^^^If that had a black bezel insert and no blue anodize on the bezel it might make the rest of the blue/red pop. Cool watch though.

That looks pretty sweet! I didn't think I would like the blue. Not bad.

I've been looking at tunas . I wish I had some extra shekels to throw at one of the nice pieces on the sale board right now. Ugh.

I want a cheap-ish one to see if I like the fit before going all-in on an Emporer. I could always go try one on but what's the fun in that :)

Seiko is doing the same as the Japanese car makers, hilighting parts with colors. For instance, certain more costly editions of Nissan compact NOTE has the side mirrors in contrasting color etc. The Mini Cooper is a big seller here in Japan and some companies as Suzuki are copying the Cooper color combos. Kinda cheapens the Seikos IMO.
