Japan Self Defence Force issued watches

Post by kempoman » Wed Jul 05, 2017 4:48 am

Over the years I come across many western Countries infantry issued watches. How come there are no words on Japan National Defense Force watches?
Are they Seiko? Citizen or Casio? Which exact model?
Just curious and if anyone here owns some clues..

Did you find one for US Forces because I never got one when I was in.

I think Alba did a few overseas issued watches. But I am not sure.

Read up on the Seiko made Seikosha Kamikaze Pilot's Watches from WWII. Interesting stuff. Of course it is pretty hard to find a used one.

There are a number of Seikosha vintage Japanese navy watches available on the net.

Supposedly the current Japanese Self Defense Force (Military) wears these, made by Kentex:

Kentex version looks like some gift shop watches for souvenir. I was expecting some collectors to post issued MM 300M or a SKX ..

AFAIK, there are no really nice official mil watches here in Japan. Those Kentex I have seen but refused to buy one. Kinda cheap IMO.
Nothing here like the CWCs, old Hamiltons, German stuff.
Like the USA armed forces, most guys buy whatever they want. Vintage Japanese mil watches are another breed and collectible.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Johnny Carson "Carnac the Magnificent" jokes:

A: "Chicken Teriaki"

Q: "What's the name of Japan's oldest living kamikaze pilot?"
