Jeff Macie Seiko Mod
Jeff Macie Seiko Mod
I recently purchased a Seiko mod over on the USN. Looked nice in the pics and I figured I'm on a Seiko kick right now so what the heck. As soon as I received it, I knew I would never wear it. Sawtooth bezel looks great, but just doesn't look right on my wrist, the lume was mismatched from dial to bezel to hands, and the really high dome distorted the entire dial .... like looking through a fish bowl. So rather than sit the watch in a drawer forever, I sent it off to Jeff Macie.
Here is the original SKX Sawtooth Mod:
Condition is always a bit difficult when looking at low res pics. But I would describe the condition as "fair" with tons of rubs, micro scratches and lack of shine. And I've passed on the SKX since I usually prefer drilled out lugs. Jeff refinished my case to "nicer than new" .
I asked Jeff about drilling out the lugs and he actually ordered the necessary parts to drill out my case. I'm guessing I'm the first one for Jeff:
We decided on the 171 dial which I like, but the lume was mismatched with the Tuna hands, so Jeff relumed the hands to C1:
I've wanted a nice lumed bezel insert ever since seeing Drew's lume shots of his Grand Seiko GMT SBGE001. Jeff had never worked with a SkyNova sapphire insert so I had one sent to him:
Look at that depth!!!
Perfect chapter ring alignment:
And some completed shots:
Along with everything else, Jeff regulated the movement which was running at +30 sec/day. Now this is something I'll wear. Already ordered an MN Black Ops strap as well as an Uncle Seiko BoR with custom endlinks. So hopefully this will now see rotation along with my other Seikos.
I can't recommend Jeff more highly. He quickly answers all of my OCD questions. He works efficiently and he's very fairly priced for his services. And he's just a NICE guy!!

That looks terrific. He should give Aquajive some tips for drilling lugs.
Re: Jeff Macie Seiko Mod
Great to see a badly modified Seiko rescued and tastefully converted. Well done.

Tremendous revision
Re: Jeff Macie Seiko Mod
Could he drill IWC Aquatimer lugs?
Re: Jeff Macie Seiko Mod
Really like what you've done here.
Re: Jeff Macie Seiko Mod
And thanks everyone for the positive comments. Jeff says "thanks" as well

A bit like my Mod. I like that polished coin edge bezel. I've never been a fan of the aftermarket coin edge bezel, but seeing it polished changes my mind. Also love the drilled lugs.

Your watch looks great!!! This was partly the inspiration for my build:

I was deciding btwn the non-clicking Murphy's or the CT coin edge. But since I was getting the CT domed sapphire, I figured the CT clicking bezel would be a good fit.
Drilled lugs is just so much easier
Re: Jeff Macie Seiko Mod
Jeff started working on my watch last Friday, and less than a week later, I have my watch in hand. Work is really excellent. Lug holes are perfect. Case finish is nicer than new stock. Actually quite a bit nicer. I couldn't be happier!!
Wrist shots with my new 22mm Red Striped Black Ops strap with brushed hardware:
Lumed bezel insert is awesome. And this is my first aftermarket polished coin edge (Crystal Times), but the fit is perfect. CT sapphire is very nice as well.
Sarb crown was a bit of an indulgence, but what the heck!!
My ONLY tiny quibble is that the relumed hands and Skynova insert glow brighter and longer than the stock dial, but that's okay. Color matches which makes me happy.
Looking forward to my next few projects with Jeff
