So it continues...

So, I had previously described the condition of the Hamilton, to Julio as the bezel having some micro-scuffs but barely noticeable.
Stupid me, I brought the watch in to Otto Friedl for a light polish, to have it mint, at my cost...

Second email from douche:

"I thought you told me the small marks on the case /bezel were of no consequence. I did not ask you do that, and I appreciate the effort had I received the watch. I have the right to back away based on any reason I find necessary. I am sorry you feel this way , Had you backed out, I would respect your decision for whatever reason. I have to request a refund for shipping, this decision was not made lightly.
As for ethics/morals, I would be mindful about how you try to characterize someone you do not know well. This is just a watch trade.

He probably paid and printed out the label on USPS website and now has to cancel the transaction and wait 2 weeks to get his $$ back.

Man that's crazy. I have sold some in the past that I immediately regretted at the time but a deal is a deal. I retracted one time, but I didn't refuse to go through with the deal. I asked the buyer if I could cancel, but if the seller was adamant I would have continued the deal because I had already given my word.

At least lie and say you found something wrong with it. I'd post on WUS after the request for... I'm not sure what.

I'm still not understanding how he has the nerve to ask for a shipping refund when HE changed his mind on the way to the PO. I call bs!

I hate people like this, not just backing out of a deal after agreeing on it, but the crap of "it's just a watch deal" really pisses me off.

ethics/morals are not a buffet - you can't pick and choose when to apply ethics and morals, you either have them or you don't regardless of whether it's (insert real life issue) or "just a watch deal"

This is my response to him;

[QUOTE=jdc222]Exactly, to the naked eye, or non-WIS, the bezel is as I described it, but I wanted it to be mint, so I had the bezel polished.
Of course you "have the right" to back away, as you call it. I also have the right to inform others of your non-credible ways.
Keep your PADI, as I am not interested in dealing with you any further.

Dave

I'm in the "better off not dealing with him" camp. Better to have this happen now, before you sent the watch, than next week when he'd change his mind.

A deal is a deal in my book. Backing out is poor form - especially without asking permission.

Bottom line is there is a way to do things. I don't know if it is a moral or ethics question, but it certainly falls under a failure to understand how to interact in a business transaction.

What a bummer. It sucks to get excited about an exchange like this, then have someone flake on you.

JDC222 wrote:So, after an exchange of 13 emails and a trade deal accomplished, as well as a tracking number, I get this email from the seller (Julio13) this morning;

Good morning Dave

I want to apologize and let you know that I have changed my mind on the deal. It has nothing to do with the arrangement of shipping just that on my way to the Post Office I was thinking about it and changed my mind about the trade and even if I want to sell it so at this point I am going to keep my PADI.

Regards,

Julio

Lesson learned AGAIN!

Unfortunately it happens, and not just on WUS ;)

At least he flaked before you shipped your watch. Hope the next deal goes through smoothly.

I'm not sure he is asking Dave for a shipping refund. Maybe he is going to ask the USPS for a shipping refund as was mentioned above.

I don't agree with the guy. Seems wrong to me. But in the end it's just a watch....
and easy one to get. You didn't lose money or ship your watch to him.
I'd not get too worked up. Not worth it. Maybe it's better in the end u didn't complete the deal with him.

I agree Brice, I'm not worked up. I just wanted to let the fellas know, to avoid the hassle in the future. :thumbsup:

Did a straight trade (Soh1982), easy peasy. This one should be here tomorrow...
