Seiko SARG011 revisited
Seiko SARG011 revisited
A while back I got this Seiko SARG011, a really nice 40mm pilot type watch with a cool domed sapphire crystal and the 6rxx Seiko movement. When I got it it was obvious that I did not really care for the black framed hands it came with. So I set to change them and installed some SRP444 hands which improved the look but for some reason it was still not fully satisfactory to me. Specifically I did not like the lume dot on the tail end of the second hand as well as the fact that the hands looked a little short in my personal opinion, mostly due to the black frame.
Although I was pretty happy about it it was still nagging me that it did not look like I wanted. I don't have a way to make my own parts, dials or hands, so I have to use off the shelf ones. Since the dial is actually slightly larger then the usual, the availability of slightly longer hands was very limited.
Until one point when an Orient Pilot came up for sale, this is the one Art posted. I thought that it had the best possibly fitting hands for this watch and so I snagged the watch. I swapped the hands and here is the result. Orient is close to Seiko in terms of quality and in fact I think that Seiko even owns Orient or part of the company... but anyway, the hands are good quality and fit well which is the most important point here.
So here are a few pics:

Looks great. Love the "Automatic" font Seiko uses.
"I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude."

Looks good. Has a Tudor Ranger feel to it. Win.
Re: Seiko SARG011 revisited
Thank you and well... I would love to find some hands that mimic or at least resemble a bit the ones of the Ranger... That is what I am thinking I could do next, if I can find something suitable.hoppyjr wrote:Looks good. Has a Tudor Ranger feel to it. Win.

^ oh heck yea! Get those and have your new relume guy make them look Seiko fresh. Done.
Re: Seiko SARG011 revisited
Thank you guys, I did see those hands but unfortunately they are a little too short and thin for this watch. The dial of this is larger then normal, about 31mm compared to 28mm. I already tried some other ones but hand to change them because of the same issue. I was almost thinking I should try the Monster hands, since they are of similar shape and they would be a little larger at least. But first I have to get another watch, this one will stay as it is. If I do anything, I will do it on another watch...
