Here we go again! MM300 content
Rumors are flying around once again that the MM300 is discontinued and August will be the last shipment from Japan. Problem is these rumors always seem to stem from "official" Seiko sources outside of Japan...
I'll believe it when I see it but the timing would make sense given the revamp of the Tuna line and the introduction of the monstrosity MM1000. It would be a great introduction to the next 50years of Seiko Divers as it'll mark the 51st year for them. BUT... Seiko is now using the 8L35 in two other Tuna models rather than just the Emperor, and there's no question the MM300 is still their flagship diver. However, unless they add the MEMS parts to all new 8L35s the MM300 still lacks this upgrade.
I've had the theory they would call it quits after the 50th anniversary SBDX012 as they introduced the model with the LE SBDX003 and have been running strong for over a decade.
If true it'll be the biggest news in a long time for all dive watch enthusiasts. I certainly think it's time to move forward... It's nearly the perfect watch and I think all us flippers can attest to that... It just didn't quite stick for most of us for it's very minor (IMHO) shortcomings, and because of the debatable attributes we all yearn for in a potential (tastefully done) upgrade. Mighty big shoes to fill!
I hope the SBEX001 isn't its successor and if I'm right I hope they don't take design cues from it. Hopefully I can bump this thread saying I told you so!

I hope they do a tuna style update. Better clasp and bracelet and a few little tweaks and rerelease with a new model number.
Re: Here we go again! MM300 content
Either give it 22mm lugs or make it titanium. Either way would make it perfect.

Drop the 8L35 in a Shogun, add the sliding clasp and sapphire, and call it a day.
“Punishable by fine” = Legal for a price.”
Re: Here we go again! MM300 content
I think the MM300 and LE variants 003 and 012 are arguably the nicest divers Seiko has produced in the last 45 years... talk amongst yourselves

It needs a regulated movement..signed crown..better bezel...sapphire crystal and all will be right in the world. Imo.

I'd love a hi-beat in this, but not for $2k more...

They have always worked fine, what Ben is talking about is it having more than one gasket on it.Seppia wrote:Are you sure the design was not improved over time?BBK357 wrote:Better crown
I have heard this crown issue for a while, but I owned two MM300 (one produced March 2012, the other one October 2013 if I remember correctly) and the crowns seemed to have no issues whatsoever to me.
Smooth and secure.
Not as smooth as my Tudor Black Bay, not as secure as my Marathon, but definitely ok

I agree. Triple gaskets would be stellar.toxicavenger wrote:They have always worked fine, what Ben is talking about is it having more than one gasket on it.Seppia wrote:Are you sure the design was not improved over time?BBK357 wrote:Better crown

Someone should do a triplock mod on an MM300. That would be killer.

I'd be in if they changed everything else about the look.mikeylacroix wrote:actually...who would love the blue sumo with sapphire crystal, 22mm lugs and slightly shorter L2L for the market price?

Seiko has proven to me they know what they're doing. The fact they go about it in a different "minimalist" way than say Rolex is very Japanese of them.toxicavenger wrote:They have always worked fine, what Ben is talking about is it having more than one gasket on it.Seppia wrote:Are you sure the design was not improved over time?BBK357 wrote:Better crown

To be honest I'd be interested in anything carrying 7C46 movementTorrid wrote:Boo, I want the Tuna quartz movement and a small drop in price.
Re: Here we go again! MM300 content
Same here. I finally just gave up and realized the combo of the 7C46 and Tuna are perfect for me. I didn't really want to get rid of my last one anyway. The 017 fits the bill nicely and hasn't been off the OEM rubber much. I prefer it by far to the bracelet. I'd just like the movement in a dressier diver sometimes.sierra11b wrote:To be honest I'd be interested in anything carrying 7C46 movementTorrid wrote:Boo, I want the Tuna quartz movement and a small drop in price.

Curious to see if the rumours prove to be true.
As far as the MM300 goes, I wear mine often (in truth, more frequently over the last year than my 2254), so I've come to realise that despite its (perceived) shortcomings, I love it. Lack of sapphire glass aside, I don't see any shortcomings. Unsigned crown is consistent with its heritage, bezel feels fine on mine, 20mm bracelet works well (though I have owned some better), and despite its height it conforms really well to my puny wrist. YMMV

Re: Here we go again! MM300 content
for me they kinda did that with the sbdc027 lolJP Chestnut wrote:I'd be in if they changed everything else about the look.mikeylacroix wrote:actually...who would love the blue sumo with sapphire crystal, 22mm lugs and slightly shorter L2L for the market price?
Re: Here we go again! MM300 content
I wouldn't be surprised to see a carefully updated mm300 soon with updated 8L35 movement (MEMS parts) and signed crown ("X" for Prospex) and maybe sapphire crystal. IMHO the sbdx001 doesn't need any changes, but if I could ask for a change then I would like to see a more flat case back like the sbdx007...

Does anyone know if the SBDX012 uses MEMS parts?
